The objective of this study is to categorize North Korea`s performances into those at Seoul National Theatre and those at mobile stages, and to examine characters and acting of North Korea`s dramas performed around the Korean War. The findings of the study are categorized into two cases. First, characters of dramas performed at Seoul National Theater are mainly populace of the 1950s, and they are characterized by liveliness and viability. Stages are 3-dimensional, and they naturally lead actors to perform 3-D acting. Actors basically have a healthy image, and act with speeches and movements probable in reality on realistic stages. The second is the performance at mobile stages. The mobile performances aim to console and encourage people; thus characters are typologically cast. These typological characters, acting in front of a black screen or a folding screen, naturally perform 2-dimensional acting. Actors perform acting as if to show off to spectators or to exhibit something, and speak like shouting or in union. As such, North Korea`s dramas performed around the Korean War are different from those of South Korea. North Korea`s dramas at that time aim to help perform the political party`s policies, while South Korea`s dramas aim to console the war-torn populace. The theme of North Korea`s dramas is conviction over victory and dedication to their fatherland, while the theme of South Korea`s dramas is love and romance. Around the Korean War, South and North Korea perform different dramas from each other. They are not something to rival. This is because there is no right drama to be performed during wars. However, it should be kept in mind that the difference between South and North Korean dramas around the Korean War, after the war, influences the drama circles of both sides in any way. This difference shown around the Korean War presages the difference after the armistice.
