GDP가 자본 축적의 화폐적 표시라면 도시화율은 그것의 공간적 표시이다. 현재 전 세계의 평균 도시화율은 50%를 상회하는 데 반해, 한국은 90%를 넘고 있는데, 이 놀라운 고정자본의 집적 및 공간적 압축은 곧 인간 신체에 내재된 `다감각적 공간`이 세계 평균의 두 배에 가깝게 이루어지고 있음을 뜻한다. 개체 생태학적 위기의 지표라고 할 자살률과 이혼율이 꾸준히 증가하여 세계적으로 수위를 달리고 있다는 점도 이런 압축적 성장과 무관치 않다. 에드워드 홀에 의하면 다양한 신체 감각들과 맞물린 다감각적 공간(및 `치명적 거리`)들이 파괴될 경우 인간의 행동 및 사고 능력은 무의식적으로 심각한 손상을 받아 `트라우마` 혹은 `외상 후 스트레스`로 신체에 각인되어 심각한 우울증과 자살을 유발할 수 있다고 한다. 제한된 공간에 최대한 많은 용적의 건축물을 지어 최대한의 수익을 올리려는 개발업자와 투기꾼의 입장에서는 복잡한 공간적 거리를 필요로 하는 유동적인 인간의 신체적 공간을 1평방 미터 이내의 고정된 크기를 지닌 물체적 공간으로 인식하는 것이 유리할 것이다. 인간적 접촉이 사라지고 인간이 개미나 점처럼 지각되는 원거리 시점에서 바라보게 되면 인간을 공간적으로 포개고 이동시킬 수 있는 하나의 물체로 간주하는 것은 거리낌 없고, 자연스러운 일이 될 것이다. 하지만 이런 시점은 `자연스러운` 것이 아니라 `본원적 축적`에 의해 농촌에서 내몰린 대규모 인구의 도시 유입과 더불어 도시와 농촌, 지식노동과 육체노동 간의 시공간적 분리와 모순을 격화시켜 온 자본주의적 세계화의 산물이다. 이 과정에 숨겨진 모순과 위험의 심화 과정을 데이비드 하비의 시공간의 변증법을 통해 규명하고, 레이몽 윌리엄즈와 발터 벤야민, 레이코프/존슨 등의 분석에 의거하여 개인과 집단의 능동적으로 신체화된 공간적 역량의 활성화에 기여할 비판적-대안적 도시인문학의 `철학적 기반`을 탐색하는 데 이 글의 목적이 있다.`

If `GDP` is a monetary index of capitalist accumulation, rate of urbanization is a spatial index. While worldwide average rate of urbanization is above 50 % today, it pass over 90% in Korea. This rapid speed of concentration of fixed capital and spatial condensation means that demolition of multi-sensory space embedded in human body through spatial condensation been also increased in almost twice of worldwide rate. Such trend has close relationship with foremost high level of rates of suicide and divorce in Korea which is also an index of crisis of individual human ecology. According to anthropologist Edward Hall, demolition of multi-sensory spaces(and `lethal distance`) embedded in human body causes unconscious damages of human`s ability of acting and thinking to inscribe serious traumatic stresses in human body which may induce melancholic depression and suicide. In a position of professional developer and speculator who want to get maximal profits by constructing maximal building capacities on a limited space, it will be convenient to recognize human`s complex fluid bodily space as a fixed material space under 1 square meter. When, from a long-shot perspective without a personal contact, human body is looked as like as an ant or a point, it seems to be natural to consider a human body as a material thing to be piled up and moved into any spaces. However, these kind of ways of seeing are not natural but artificial points of view to be effected through long-term globalization of capitalism which has intensified separations and contradictions between city and country, knowledge labor and bodily labor accompanying coercive inflow of huge population from countries into cities by `the primitive accumulation`. The purpose of this paper is to make a close examination of such intensified contradictions and perils immanent in these processes through some modifications of David Harvey`s time-space matrix, and to search a philosophical foundation of critical-alternative urban humanities for actualization of active individual-collective spatial competences by use of discursive analyses of Raymond Williams, Walter Benjamin, George Lakoff, and Mark Johnson.
