문단은 읽기와 쓰기, 문법에 모두 응용 가능한 단위이다. 본고에서는 이런 문단의 속성을 적절하게 활용하여 읽기와 문법 영역에 모두 적용할 수 있도록 하였다. 특히 본고는 교육과정상에서 읽기, 쓰기, 문법의 모든 영역에 제시되고 있는 응집성과 통일성의 문제를 문단 중심으로 다루었다. 응집성과 통일성이라는 용어는 국어교육의 틀 안에서만 사용될 수 있는 용어도 아니며, 아울러 용어 자체가 지니는 의미도 의미연결의 문제를 다루기에는 부적절하다. 따라서 본고에서는 인지심리학에서 제안된 용어인 지엽적 의미연결과, 총체적 의미연결을 사용하고자 한다. 하지만 이들 용어도 언어 단위가 지칭하는 범위로 가늠하기에는 어려움이 따른다. 따라서 본고에서는 문단을 중심으로 문단 내 결속은 지엽적 의미연결로, 문단 간 결속은 총체적 의미연결로 다루었다. 전자와 후자에 따른 지도 방안으로 전자에는 어휘 결속 지도와 중심화 이론을 적용한 문장 연결 지도로, 후자에는 시각적 표지를 활용한 의미구조 도식화하기와 논거의 발견과 배열을 통한 의미구조 형성하기를 설정하였다.

The paragraph is applicable in a reading, writing, and grammar. The paper can be applied in a reading and grammar with proper use of paragraph property. Especially in a curriculum the paper treated cohesion and coherence in a reading, writing and grammar with the middle of paragraph. The cohesion and coherence are not used only in the korean education, and the meaning of term is not adequate. Therefore the paper use the term of local coherence and global coherence which have been suggested in cognition psychology. But these terms are not aimed at accurately an extent of language unit. Hence the paper treated as local coherence in a paragraph binding and global coherence between paragraphs in the center of paragraph. In a teaching method, the latter is considered with lexical chain and centering theory. The other is established with a graph of meaning structure and meaning structure formation with discovery, arragment of arguments.
