김승옥은 다수의 연구자들에 의해 `60년대 작가`라고 불린다. 작가 스스로도 그 용어를 기꺼이 수용한다. 이러한 합의는 김승옥의 소설이 60년대의 특징을 담지하고 있다고 파악할 수 있는 충분한 이유가 된다. 그러한 이유로 본고는 김승옥의 소설이 60년대 정서를 어떠한 방식으로 표현 해냈는지를 밝히려는 시도에서 출발한다. 김승옥 소설의 60년대적 특징을 나타내는 것으로 소설의 내적 특징과 주체의 특징을 항목으로 하여 고찰하였다. 소설의 내적 특징으로는 전쟁체험의 내면화, 고통스런 자기세계의 형성, 도시와 고향에서의 소외로 구분하여 각각의 특징을 찾아보았다. 김승옥 소설에 나타난 주체의 특징으로는 경계에 선 주체와 성찰적 주체를 소항목으로 하여, 김승옥식의 60년대 주체들의 특징을 살폈다. 60년대의 다른 작가들에 대한 연구를 병행하여 김승옥 소설의 특징을 비교, 검토하는 기회를 기대해본다.

Kim Seong-og is called as a 1960`s novelist by literary researchers. Even the writer himself recognized it. This means Kim Seong-og`s novels express 1960`s characteristics. So, this paper starts from the try to define how the Kim Seong-og`s novels express 1960`s sentiment. This paper contemplates intrinsic characteristics and subjects characteristics as Kim SeongOk novels`s characteristics. As to the intrinsic characteristics, suggested three clauses. Those are internalization of civil war experience, formation of his own world and alienation from city and hometown. Among those three clauses, internalization of civil war experience has a main role to solve absence of father, which often showed up to Kim Seong-go`s novels, and obsession to form of his own world. As to the subject`s characteristics, suggested two clauses. Those are the subjects who are standing on the boundary and the introspective subjects. Kim Seong-og`s subjects show up as boundary subjects, who can not settle down to city and hometown either. This characteristics has a relation to introspective subjects.
