이 글은 현대시의 구비설화 수용 양상을 파악하기 위해, 서정주의 시를 대상으로 여성인물 설화가 시에 수용된 양상을 집중 검토한 것이다. 논의의 결과를 요약하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시 <화사>는 이브 신화를 시적 상상력을 펴기 위한 계기적 모티프와 상징으로 작품에 수용했다. 이 작품은 주체의 성적 욕망을 타자화된 여성이미지로 표현했는데, `이브→ 클레오파트라→ 우리 순네`로 이어진 여성 이미지는 착하면서도 관능적인 아이러니의 존재였다. 둘째, 일련의 춘향 연작시는 춘향 서사의 일반과 다른 시적 상황을 설정하고, 춘향을 시적 화자이자 주인공으로 삼아 춘향의 내면의식을 토로하는 시적 의장을 보였다. 춘향 연작시에서 춘향은 `그네`를 통한 상승의지, 초월적 존재인 `신령님`에 대한 귀의로도 영원한 사랑을 실현하지 못하다가, 이승적 존재인 몸에서 벗어나 윤회전생을 통해 성취하고자 했다. 셋째, 논개 설화를 수용한 <논개의 풍류역학>에서는 논개의 죽음을 풍류로 이끌어진 고상한 행위로 묘사하려 했지만, 논개에 대한 희화화된 표현이 오히려 논개의 죽음이 갖는 진지성과 엄숙성을 해치고 말았다. 넷째, 선덕여왕 관련 설화를 수용한 일련의 시작품들은 시적 화자가 선덕여왕의 입장이 되어 내면심리를 형상화하고 있는 작품들이었다. 그러면서 선덕여왕과 지귀의 사랑을 현실적이고 현재적인 시점에서 재해석하고자 했다. 다섯째, 질마재의 여성설화를 수용한 시작품들은 구비설화의 구술성을 작품의 서술 화법으로 채용함으로써 화제 자체에 대한 독자의 관심과 흥미를 모으고자 했다. 이들 시작품에서 여성들은 일상의 결함과 편견의 시선을 초월하는 육체성을 통해 신성성을 획득함으로써 주술적 존재들로 격상되는 면모를 보여주었다.

This study aims at grasping the receptive phases of folk tales in modern Korean poems centering around Seo, Jung-Ju`s poems based on folk tales about women The results can be summarized as followings; firstly is a poem receiving myth of Eve to express a sexual desire in the subject. Secondly poems sequence of Chun-Hyang are works about eternal love utilizing narratives of Chun-Hyang. Thirdly a poem based on Non-Gae tales is making Non-Gae as a comic and vulgar woman, and is making her death lightly contrary to poet`s expectations. Fourth poems based on tales about queen of Sunduck express the theme of actual love putting the poetic speaker into queen of Sunduck. Fifthly poems based on folk tales about Jilmajae`s women take the orality of folk tales as the method of narration, and show the sacred appearances in consequence of taking the especial charm and energy of body and the capacity of conjuration.
