본 논문은 유교의 개념을 중심으로 하여 유교문화 축제의 실천적 기본 개념을 찾는 시도이다. 동양의 신화적 감수성은 서양의 대립적 비극성과 달리 세속적 현실과 건전한 긴장관계의 비극심미 양상을 갖는다. 유교에는 서양과 달리 대상화된 자아(또는 사회)의 불합리성에 대한 ‘완전한 파괴’가 상대적으로 진전되지 않는다. “즐겁기는 하나 음란하지 않고 슬프지만 마음을 다치게 하지 않는 것”이 유교 또는 유교축제의 기본자세이다. 유교축제는 건전한 현실에 천착하는 ‘돌아옴[歸]의 미학’이기 때문이다. 문화로서 유교가 거듭나기 위해서는 민주주의와 민본원리의 결합 가능성을 확인하는 게 필요하다. 그리고 정의와 이익추구가 조화를 이룬 건전한 자본주의의 질서를 도모해야 한다. 그리고 세계사의 조류의 문제들을 한국 유교가 한국적으로 재해석하여야 한다. 그리고 또 개인과 사회의 도덕규범에 대한 불평등적 이미지에 대한 개선을 하여야 한다. 필자는 그러한 목적 아래 유교축제의 중심개념으로 ‘수양(修養)’, ‘교화(敎化)’, ‘조화(造化)’를 제시하였다. 유교축제는 아직 타종단에 비해 종교축제로 활성화 되지 않고 있다. 사실상 유교축제 연구는 이제 막 구상의 단계이다. 한국의 문제를 유교축제는 고유의 사상적 개념을 기반으로 함께 고민하고, 유교축제를 통한 공동체 ‘지역의 네트워크화’를 도모해야 한다.
This thesis is to try finding out the practical basic ideas of the Confucian festivals. Oriental mythological sensibility has a tragic aesthetic quality of sound strained relations in the real world, different from the Western tragic qualities resulting from opposing to each other. "Pleasant but not lascivious, sad but not hurtful" is the basic idea of Confucian festivals. The utter destruction of the absurdity of the subject(or society) is not made in Confucianism, compared with the Western. Confucian festival means aesthetics of return to the sound real world. It intends not to get rid of the emotion which needs purifying, but to minimize the repetition of it. To revive Confucianism as a culture, it is necessary to make sure of Confucianism combined with democracy and theory of humanism. Also, Korean Confucianism should seek the sound capitalistic system in harmony with justice and the pursuit of its benefit, and reinterpret the current world problems in Korean Confucian perspective. It should also try to improve unfair ideas of the individual and social moral codes. In order to do these, I suggest mental training, enlightenment and harmony as main ideas of Confucian festival. Confucian festival has not been activated as a religious festival, compared with other religious ones. Actually, the study on the Confucian festival has now started. Confucian festival should try to solve the social problems in Korea based on Confucian unique ideas, and seek to make communal network through Confucian festival.
