김종직은 50세 이전부터 소갈병을 앓았고, 57세에는 안질을 앓았다. 59세에는 한질을 앓았는데, 이것은 가벼운 감기가 아니라 독감으로 추정된다. 그는 환갑 전후에 중풍에 걸려서 거동이 자유롭지 못하였고 오른팔에 수전증세가 있었다. 김종직은 醫術은 신뢰하였지만 醫員은 신뢰하지 않았다. 이는 당시의 저급한 의료수준을 반영한 意識이다. 그는 의료사고를 당하여 병이 악화되기까지 하였으며, 그의 아내는 巫術에 의지하려고 하였다. 김종직은 병을 앓는 과정에서, 조건 없는 위안을 주는 벗은 오직 자연뿐이라는 사실, 세속적 가치의 덧없음, 인간의 정신은 長大하며 우주가 완전하다는 이치, 자연의 변화는 법칙성의 구현이며 그것과 상반된 무상한 인정세태, 인간의 병도 ‘자연의 신진대사’라는 큰 범주를 벗어나지 못한다는 이치를 깨달았다. 김종직은 병을 앓으면서 문학적 정서가 건강할 때와 다른 양상으로 형성된다는 사실을 깨달았다. 그래서 그는 병을 앓으면서 생성된 사유와 정서를 놓치지 않고 시로 표현하였다. 형식적 측면에서 대체로 연작이 많다. 병을 지루하게 오래 앓은 만큼 말할 것도 많았던 것이다. 표현의 측면에서는 난삽한 표현을 배제하고 평이한 수사를 추구하고 있다. 따라서 진솔한 정서의 표출이 더욱 효과적으로 이루어질 수 있었다. 사상적 측면에서 老莊的 傾斜를 보인다. 그가 병을 앓으면서 쓴 시 중 상당수는 『莊子』에서 용사를 취하고 있다. 병자에게 위안과 희망을 주는 사상으로 老莊만한 것이 없었던 것이다.

Before fifty, Kim jong-jik suffers from diabetes, has eye trouble in the fifty seven years old and gets the flu in the fifty nine years old. About sixty one, he is stricken with a stroke is not able to move about freely, and has a severe hand tremor on his right arm. Kim jong-jik trusts medical care but he didn`t the doctor. He has a medical malpractice, his condition got worse, and his wife tries to depend on shamanism. Suffering from a disease, he realize nature that is the only thing which gives unconditional consolation, the brevity of worldly life, the majesty of the human mind, a complete universe. And he find a change of nature which is a Generality`s materialization, the hardness of the world. He realizes the disease which includes the nature`s metabolism. Getting ill, Kim jong-jik realizes his literary emotion which formed different ways. So he expresses poem with his thoughts and emotions which formed while he is sick. Most of his poems are the series. His poem is written in a simple style and has Laotzu`s philosophical thinking tendency.
