본고에서는 朴來謙의 『西繡日記』를 통해 조선시대 仕宦日記의 성격을 고찰하였다. 삶의 궤적과 저술을 통해 작품을 검토하고 『西繡日記』를 분석하여 그 성격과 특징을 考究하였다. 그의 일기는 筆寫로 존재하는 유일본이며 楷書體로 기술되어 있다. 박래겸의 삶을 修學期, 仕宦期, 老年期로 정리하였는데, 30세부터 58세까지를 사환기로 삼고 그 이전을 수학기로, 이후를 노년기로 구분하였다. 저술에는 시문집인 『晩悟遺稿』, 암행어사의 기록인 『西繡日記』, 북평사의 기록인 『北幕日記』, 서장관의 기록인 『瀋차錄』등이 있다. 『西繡日記』는 관인으로서 특정 업무를 수행하는 가운데 보고 듣고 체험한 사실을 기록한 仕宦日記의 성격을 지니고 있다. 이를 통해 조선후기 관료지식인의 현실 인식과 문학에 대한 단면을 조망할 수 있고 그 당시의 시대상과 문화적 현상 등에 대해서 살필 수 있다. 『西繡日記』는 그 내용이나 형식이 다양하고 풍부하며 종합적일 뿐 아니라 당시의 기록이라는 점에서 중요성을 가진다. 19세기 전반기의 사회와 문화 등 다방면의 연구에 기여하는 자료로서의 특징을 지니고 있다. 한편 서술이 자세하고 정확하며 진솔한 특징이 있으며, 단순한 기록에서 벗어나 자신의 의식을 투영함으로써 문학적 특징도 지닌다. 결국 『西繡日記』는 사환일기의 성격과 함께 現時性, 寫實性, 眞實性등 다양한 특징을 지니고 있다. 본고의 결과는 한문학 연구에서 문화사적인 자료를 확보하고 이를 활용하여 작가와 시대에 대한 연구의 영역을 확장하고 심화하는 데 기여 할 것이다.

This paper consider carefully the diary of a career official in the Joseon dynasty around Park Naegyeom(朴來謙)`s 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』. Through the deeds of his predecessors and writing, I examine his work, analyze 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』 and study its character and its peculiarity. The diary is the only book which transcribed by hand, and it is written in the printed style. Park Naegyeom`s life is classified as the three season. From 30 to 58, it is called a career official time. Before that time, it is called the study season, and after that time, it is called the old age. 『Man-o You-go(晩悟遺稿)』 is his posthumous work, 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』 is an undercover emissary of the king`s record, 『Buk-mak Diary(北幕日記)』 is a Buk-pyeong-sa(北評事)`s record, 『Sim-sa-rok(瀋차錄)』 is a Seo-jang-gwan(書狀官)`s record, etc. In the 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』, it has been recorded a broad variety of experience as a career official. This diary surveys a career official`s reality awareness in the latter part of Joseon dynasty, his thought of literary, the phases of the times, and a cultural style in those days. 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』 has diverse forms and an abundant content, and the importance of those days record. It is used as research material about social and culture in the former part of 19th century. Its depiction is detailed and honest. Getting out of a simple idea, It reflects his consciousness. In the conclusion, 『Seo-su Diary(西繡日記)』 has diverse characteristics. For example, a career official diary`s character, reality, veracity, and etc. This paper will contribute to the development of a study on the writer and the time.
