본 연구는 정신지체아동을 대상으로 짝자극 기법을 통한 조음 정확도 개선과 오류 유형 변화를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 부산과 경상남도의 초등학교에 재학 중인 ``ㅅ`` 과 ``ㅈ``음에 조음상의 문제를 가지고 있는 1, 2학년 3명의 정신지체아동이다. 짝자극 기법 프로그램은 석동일(1995)이 제시한 구조에 따라 연구에 적합하도록 재구성하였으며 단어, 문장, 회화 3단계의 수준에서 조음중재를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 대상아동 모두 짝자극 기법을 통해 단어, 문장, 회화 수준에서 조음 정확도가 개선되었으며, 오류 유형 변화에서는 생략, 대치, 왜곡이 줄어들었고 끝까지 남아 있는 오류 유형이 왜곡임을 알 수 있었다. 오조음이 감소함에 따라 유형에는 변화가 있지만 전반적으로 모든 오류 유형이 감소함을 보여주었다. 본 연구를 통하여 짝자극 기법은 정신지체아동의 조음 정확도를 개선시켜 조음 오류가 줄어들도록 하는데 효과적인 중재방안이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

The purpose of this study is to examine articulation accuracy and to analyse error type in the words, sentences and conversation level of children with mental retardation by paired-stimuli technique. The subjects were 3 children with mental retardation in the first and second grade of elementary school. The children were having difficulty with articulation on the basis of the U-TAP criteria. To be eligible for the study, the children had to be free articulation disorder-structural, emotional, visual, and hearing disorder. The paired-stimuli technique was applied to 3 children individually. The program consisted of 18 session for 9 weeks. Each training session took 40 minutes. To find out the effectiveness of paired-stimuli technique on the improvement of articulation accuracy and the change of error type in children with mental retardation, scores of articulation accuracy test were compared and error types analysed in pre-intervention, intervention, and post intervention period. The results of this study were as follows; First, paired-stimuli technique was effective on improvement of articulation accuracy in words, sentences and conversation level. Second, as articulation accuracy improves, substitution and distortion error decrease in the words, sentences and conversation level and the error types didn`t change from substitution to distortion. In conclusion paired-stimuli technique can be a good intervention for children with mental retardation.
