In recent years, local governments make use of a variety of symbols for the purpose of place marketing. For such a symbol to perform its role successfully it has to have the regionality`s attraction differentiable from other regionalities. In this research we divide provincial governments` symbols into three categories such as symbols made of animals and plants, brand slogans, and symbolic characters, and examine how each of them represents the specific regionality. It turns out that regionalities are better represented in the order of characters, symbols of animals and plants, and brand slogans. It also should be pointed out that the main drawback is the similarity of subject matters in all three categories. We suggest a local government should take a thorough examination of its natural environment, and local history, culture, economy and the mode of living before creating a symbol of regionality.
