이 논문은 두 작품의 연관성을 바탕으로 작성되었다. 김연수의 「다시 한달을 가서 설산을 넘으면」과 한 강의 『바람이 분다, 가라』는 ``읽기와 쓰기``가 전면에 드러나 있다. 두 작품의 인물들은 모두 친구의 죽음을 이해하기 위한 노력으로 책을 읽고 글을 쓴다. 하지만 이들 작품에 나타난 ``읽기와 쓰기``는 단순히 친구의 죽음을 이해하기 위한 과정으로만 볼 것이 아니라, 세상과 타자에 대한 이해의 과정이라고 확대하여 생각해 볼 수 있다. 소설에 나타난 사건들은 단지 한 장면에만 국한되어 해석되는 것이 아니라. 인간 삶의 전체적인 장면으로 확장하여 파악할 수 있기 때문이다. 따라서 「다시 한달을 가서 설산을 넘으면」과 『바람이 분다, 가라』에 나타난 ``읽기와 쓰기``를 ``인간 삶과 타자에 대한 이해의 과정``으로 학습자들에게 가르친다면, ``세상에 대한 폭넓은 이해``라는 소설 교육의 중요한 목표에 도달할 수 있을 것이다.
