본고에서는 시의 이미지와 시각예술인 사진, 그림 이미지의 소통성에 주목하고 이를 시 읽기 방식에 적용해 보고자 한다. 분절성을 지닌 언어를 적절히 안배함으로써 작가의 주제의식을 이미지화하는 시와, 선과 색, 형태를 통해 시각적으로 형상화되는 시각예술의 이미지는 유사한 속성을 공유하고 있다. 시와 시각예술이 결합되었을 때, 개별영역의 독자적 특성이 상호 영향력을 행사함으로써 감상력을 고취시키게 된다. 시와 사진 그리고 그림이 의미를 함축한 기호나 텍스트라는 관점에 합의한다면, 언어예술과 시각예술은 그 접점을 갖게 된다. 특히 시와 사진 및 그림은 작가의 가치관이나 정서를 이미지로 형상화하는 공통점을 가지고 있으며, 특히 시 감상의 효율성을 높이고자 한다면 시각예술의 이미지 표출방식과 이해방식을 파악하는 것은 의미 있는 작업일 것이다. 이러한 인식을 토대로 본고는 언어예술과 시각예술이 결합되어 창작되고 향유되는 구체적인 사례들을 살피고, 언어와 시각예술이 공유될 수 있는 근거인 이미지 읽기 방식을 분석하였다. 그리고 이러한 방법적 유용성을 시 읽기에 적용함으로써 효율적 방안으로 ``구성요소 추출, 총체적 의미파악, 대상의 불규정성 인식, 현실 가치 인식`` 등을 제시해 보았다. 또한, 이러한 원리를 실질적인 읽기의 차원에서 검증하기 위해 구체적인 작품을 대상으로 ``이미지 추출하기, 이미지 변용하기, 이미지 소통하기``의 방법을 제시하였다.

This research suggested the reading method of poetical works through the negotiation between visual art and character art seeing that these two media are mutually communicational and the image created by the two media works as an independent text and sign. The visual image and poem are the text composed of a mutually heterogeneous medium; however, truly enough, such a characteristic served to highlight unusual artistic beauty by aggressively introducing the characteristic into the process of art creation & its appreciation. Thus, it can be said that the combination between a visual medium and poem shown not only in the poem relating a picture subject but also in the holistic perception of art & its actual realization in the West as well as in modern poetical works throws a sidelight on such a fact. This research re-set up such principles for semantic analysis of a visual medium as image-extracting, image-transforming, and image-negotiating in consideration of the poetic work appreciation phase at a practical level, in which a visual image and poetic work are simultaneously suggested. Thus, this research suggested the process of perceiving the object picture image as a completed text, analyzing subordinate components, and drawing forth the meanings through image eliciting; it also suggested the method of expanding & deepening the meaning grasped through image-extracting by considering the socio-cultural circumstances related to the picture and reflecting the circumstances in image interpretation through image-transforming. In addition, in image-negotiating, this research looked at the procedures of verifying the interpretive validity by linking the meaning of the grasped picture image to the poetic words of a poetical work. It is hoped that the method of understanding a visual art image and poetic work by linking up with each other through the way of the mutual communication will be a basis for increasing the efficiency in the appreciation of poems.
