비서구 로컬 시공간을 기반 또는 매개하여 형성된 서벌턴 연구의 지식생산과 가부장적 지식의 변화를 이끌어내기 위한 페미니즘의 실천, 이러한 변증법적 노력에 의해 통합된 그리고 전체를 조망하고 아우르는 탈경계 인문지식의 핵심은 무엇인가? 이 글은 특정 로컬의 역사적 경험을 보편 이론의 단계까지 끌어올린 서벌턴 연구의 복합적 생산 및 유통 과정을 통해 한국에서의 수용 방향성을 탐색해 보고자 한다. 이는 글로벌 지식생산 체제의 주변부에 위치한 한국이 어떻게 자신의 역사적 자원과 경험적 특수성을 보편의 이론으로 발신할 수 있을까에 대한 또 하나의 실천적 물음이기도 하다. 이를 위해, 서발턴 연구그룹 내부의 방법론적 전환과 외부 담론체계들과의 교차를 역사화하는 것과 동시에, 정전화된 써벌턴 연구그룹 남성연구자들의 텍스트에 담긴 성맹성(gender-blindness)을 ``재현의 정치학`` 관점에서 비판적으로 문제화한 내부의 페미니스트 도전을 분석하려 한다. 이어 인도 서발턴 연구가 담론생산의 측면에서 (비)서구 지역의 지식 패러다임의 변화에 어떻게 기여하였는지 글로벌라이제이션을 키워드로 삼아 라틴아메리카 서발턴 연구그룹의 수용 궤적을 맥락화한다. 마지막으로, 서발턴 연구가 어떻게 1990년대 말 이후, 한국에서 전유, 소비, 재생산되었는지 이론, 분과학문, 시대성의 키워드를 통해 분석해보고, 서발턴을 하위주체로 번역하여 개념화 한 작업이 당시 한국 인문학의 지형 변화와 어떻게 연동되었는지 해석해보려 한다. 결론에서는 한국의 역사적 경험을 이론화하고 발신하는 데 필요한 지식의 구조와 방법론을 서발턴 연구가 지닌 장소성과 현재성을 매개로 하여 재사유해보고자 한다.

This article attempts to explore the ways in which we understand and receive Subaltern Studies` methodology by looking at its complex knowledge production and circulation process to date. In other words, it seeks to pose practical questions regarding how Korea, located on the periphery of the global knowledge system, can produce her own scholarship to create a universal knowledge derived from historical resources and specific experiences. For this purpose, this study first historicizes the turns and intersections of Subaltern Studies in the West. Also, it analyzes the challenges of feminist scholars within the subaltern studies research group who have problematized the gender-blindness embedded in canon texts produced by male scholars. Second, it tries to look at how Subaltern Studies contributes to a paradigm shift in (non-) Western areas in terms of discursive formation, and also contextualizes the trajectory of Latin America Subaltern Studies using key-words from Globalization. Third, this study explores how Subaltern Studies was appropriated, consumed and reproduced in Korea since late 1990s using the key-words "theory", "discipline", and "historicity", and then interprets the interconnection between the translation of subaltern notions and the changes in the topology of Korean Humanities. In conclusion, this article rethinks the knowledge structure and methodology required for theorizing Korean historical experiences via the place-ness and presence of Subaltern Studies.
