이 연구의 목적은 ``초등 토론 교육의 내용``을 구체화하기 위하여 ``토론``과 ``초등국어교육``에 관한 논의들을 고찰하고, 실제적인 초등학생들의 논증 수행 양상을 분석한 선행 연구 결과를 반영하여 ``초등국어교육``의 특성을 수렴하는 초등 토론 교육의 내용 체계를 제안하는 것이다. 그 구체적인 내용을 간략히 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 토론 교육의 지향점이라 할 수 있는 원리는 ``상호주관성``의 형성이다. 즉, 자신의 주장을 정확히 파악하는 (1)``자기 이해``, 상대방의 주장을 파악하고 토론에 참여하는 다른 참여자를 이해하는 (2)``상대 이해`` 그리고 토론이 벌어지는 상황맥락에 적극적으로 참여하여 새롭게 창조된 공론을 형성하는 (3)``상호 교섭``의 과정을 기본 원리로 설정하였다. 둘째, 초등학교 토론 교육의 내용은 초등 학습자에게 필요한 토론능력을 구성하는 지식, 기능, 전략을 실체화하고 이를 지도하는 방법을 안내하는 것이어야 한다. 이에 관한 실례로써 앞서 논의된 초등 학습자의 토론 담화를 분석한 실제적인 연구 내용에 근거하여 토론 과정에서 ``반론하기``에 관한 교육의 내용을 구안하여 제시하였다. 초등 토론 교육의 내용 체계는 다양한 조합과 배열을 통하여 학습자가 의미 있는 상황 맥락 속에서 지속적이고 반복적으로 학습할 수 있도록 정교하게 구조화되어야 할 것이다.

The aim of this paper is to give concrete forms of the contents of the Curriculum of Debate Education in Elementary school. For the purpose, I consider some precedent studies about this issue and reflect the results into this paper. In this study, ``Intersubjectivity`` is the decisive principle of the curriculum of debate education. It consists of three factors; (1) ``self-consciousness`` which is an exact understanding of one`s standpoint in the debate, (2) ``other-consciousness`` which is an appreciate the other debater`s (3) ``transaction``, the process which emphasizes active talking in context of debating to create new public opinion. The contents of the curriculum of debate education in elementary schools should be able to show elementary students and teachers how to use essential elements of debate which are composed of knowledge, skills and strategies. The proposed and restructured contents of the curriculum of debate education is included and it contains the teaching and learning contents of ``argument`` which are originated from the practical and analytical researches about elementary students argument in this paper. Continually the contents curriculum of debate education need to be restructured in order to benefit students learning in meaningful contexts.
