최남선의 『소년』 소재 기행문의 의의는 관념의 글쓰기, 즉 ``학구적`` 글쓰기가 압도적인 시대와는 대조적인 태도에 있다. 이들 기행문은 관념적으로 주창되는 근대문명 수용의 당위성을 복기하는 것이 아니라, 자신만의 체험과 사유를 직접적으로 드러냄으로써 근대문명에 대한 이질적인 관점을 노출한다. 무의도성, 일상성을 바탕으로 한 ``심상``함의 글쓰기를 통해 직접성과 개성을 빚어내는 것이다. 글쓰기의 변화는 『소년』 독자의 청년으로의 성장과 확대, 일상을 대하는 태도의 변화에서 유인된다. 근대 초기 근대가 일종의 체계임을 배운 후, 그 체계가 생활 속에서 체험되는 양상에 주목하게 되기 때문이다. 따라서 체험의 기록인 이들 기행문에는 근대문명이 식민지를 폐허화하는 현장, 그로 인한 식민지 주민으로서의 상실감이 극적으로 드러난다. 관념의 차원에서는 발화되지 않았던 식민지 주민이 체험하는 근대문명의 이중성이 ``심상``함의 글쓰기를 통하여 폭로되는 것이다.

The geography as the idea of enlightenment and the project to the progressive modern nation, had been highly regarded in 1900`s Chosun. Choi, Nam-Sun had also taken note on the geography by the same reason. The significance of his travel essays in Sonyun, however was not the will of enlightenment but showing the experience and thoughts based on it. The modern civilization as a fixed idea was the good. Though he had experienced and thought two sides of modern civilization on his own trip-the envy of modern world or the sense of loss as a colonist. This change was derived from the expansion of readers fron boys to youth. And from derived from the writing style of ``the usual``-based on Allteglichkeit, not conforming to the pre-knowledge and the purpose of enlightenment but doing his own experience and thought. Since he leaned that the modern is a kind of system, he carefully attended to the aspect of the personal experience.
