본 연구는 정지용의 후기 시에 나타난 장소의 특성과 시적 의미를 살펴보았다. 정지용의 후기 시에 대해선 공간에 대한 연구가 다수 이루어져 왔다. 공간 개념에 의한 시 분석은 대개 외부적 관점을 통해 공간을 대상화하게 되고 주로 수직성, 초월성, 상승 지향성 등에 주목하게 된다. 반면 장소 개념에 의한 시 분석은 장소 안에서의 내부적 관점에 의해 주체 중심의 실존성, 유기성 등에 보다 주목하게 되는 차이를 드러낸다. 이러한 장소 개념에 의한 관점을 통해 본고는 정지용의 후기 시에 나타난 장소 경험과 그로 인해 형성되는 의식을 살펴보았다. 장소에 대한 경험은 곧 장소에 대한 의식을 형성하게 되는데 이때 형성된 의식은 친밀감, 유대감, 그리고 장소의 정체성에 의해 드러나는 적막함, 고요함, 탈속성, 안정성, 밀착성 등이다. 또한 장소를 이동하는 가운데 시적 의식이 축적되는 양상을 보이기도 한다. 정지용의 후기 시 「白鹿潭」에서는 장소와 동일성을 획득하는 과정에서 주체가 해체되고 새롭게 발견되기도 한다. 이는 모두 장소에 대한 애착과 구체적인 장소의 특성에 의해 이루어지고 있다. 장소는 시의 주체에게 영향을 주며, 또한 시의 주체 역시 장소를 경험함으로써 상호 교감을 이루게 된다. 새롭게 발견된 시적 주체는 당시 조선의 특정 장소의 장소성을 반영하고 있으며, 동시에 장소성을 알려주고 있다. 이러한 점이 정지용의 후기 시에 나타난 장소성이라고 할 수 있다.

This study examines the characteristics and poetic significance of places in Jeong, Ji-yong`s later poems. For Jeong, Ji-yong`s later poems, especially space like ``mountains`` have been frequently studied. Analysis on space concept objectifies a space mostly from outside perspective, focusing on vertical, transcendent and upward nature. Analysis on place concept however takes internal perspective in the place focusing on existential and organic nature. This study examines the experience of a place and the senses formed in Jeong, Ji-yong`s later poems in terms of the place concept. Experience of a place forms a sense of a place; the formed sense includes familiarity, bond, silence, stillness, unworldliness, stability and adherence. Also the poetic sense seems to be accumulated as moving from one place to another. Jeong, Ji-yong`s later poem 「白鹿潭」 deconstruct and discover the subjects which are being identified with place. Deconstruction and discovery are done through attachment to places and specific characteristics of places. Places affect the subjects of poems which also experience the places to have mutual communication. Newly discovered poetic subjects reflect and suggest the significance of specific places in Chosun at the time. This indicates the significance of places in Jeong, Ji-yong`s later poems.
