In this paper, I considered what change of literary style translations of Chinese narrations undergo and how rapidly changing politics and society of Chosun quicken the pace of modernization by shedding light on the translations of Chinese classic novels published on mass media by Yang Gun-sik and himself, an intelligentsia who tried to introduce and learn from Chinese literature at the recent times when people thought of the inflow of Japanese culture as a royal road to the western civilization. Especially, I examined deeply the modernity of narration and translation in `` Hong-lou-mong(紅樓夢)`` which was published serially in Mae-il-sin-bo(每日申報) in 1910s. I can find the modernity of translated narrations and Chinese novels which had a great influence on the establishment of modern Korean humanity studies through the comparison with the translation of `` Hong-lou-mong(紅樓夢)`` in late Chosun dynasty. The narrative style of mixing Korean together with Chinese characters for subsumption of the intelligentsia reveals the efforts for the unification of the written and spoken language. The agony of objectification of the position of narrater leads to the usage of present and past terminations which bring identities to the readers. The conception of popular culture and civil culture germinate from the voluntary participation of the readers. New paradigm was presented while the traditional concepts and cognition were broken. The change of writing style of the intelligentsia transformed public unrest to enlightenment and national crisis situations to the enlightenment and unification of people. The translation of `` Hong-lou-mong(紅樓夢)`` has the position of fight against the old regime which feudalism represents, search for national identity and resistance to the hopeless reality. Although the translation of `` Hong-lou-mong(紅樓夢)`` was incomplete, it became a firm base for the settlement of Chinese literature in translation in Chosun.
