본 논문은 기업 내부의 소유 구조와 기업 간 관계 전략에 대한 연구이다. 대리인 이론에 근거하여 본 연구는 대리인이 경영하는 기업이 기업 간 관계 전략에 더욱 적극적일 것으로 예상한다. 나아가 본 연구는 기업이 속해 있는 거시 경제 환경이 이러한 기업 전략에 조절변수로 작용할 것이라고 가정하였다. 62개국 2만여 개의 기업 데이터를 활용하여 위 가설을 증명하였다. 위계적 이항 회귀분석 결과 경영과 소유가 분리된 기업과 소유권이 덜 집중화 된 기업이 기업협회(Business Association)에 더 많이 가입된 경향성을 발견하였다. 그리고 이러한 경향은 저개발 국가에서 더욱 뚜렷하였다. 본 연구는 기업 간 관계 전략에 있어서 기업 내부의 소유 구조와 기업 외부의 제도 환경이 상호 작용하고 있는 구조를 밝혀내었다는 점에 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

This paper examines the relationship between a firm`s ownership structure and inter-organizational relations (IORs). Based on the agency theory, this research contends that manager-controlled firms are more likely to join IORs than owner-controlled firms. In addition, this paper argues that economic institutions moderate the relationship between the ownership structure and IORs. Hypotheses were tested with data collected from 62 countries and more than 20,000 firms. The results of the hierarchical logistic regression suggest that the "separation of ownership and management" and "ownership dispersion" are significant drivers for IORs. Furthermore, agency cost is more salient in underdeveloped countries than in developed countries, implying that IORs are affected by intra-firm agency cost and country- level institutions-aspects which had been ignored in previous studies.
