유화는 한국의 대표적 건국신화인 <주몽신화>에 등장하는 여성 주인공이며, 자청비는 제주도에서 행해지고 있는 큰 굿 중 농경신에 대한 제의에서 불리고 있는 <세경본풀이>의 주인공이다. 이처럼 다른 전승맥락을 가진 두 신화는 한반도 북쪽과 남쪽에서 생성·전승되며, 서사 내 행위 범주에서 뚜렷한 차이를 보인다. 하지만 두 신화의 여성 주인공인 유화와 자청비는 농경 유래신이라는 공통점을 가지며, 이들은 다른 신화의 주인공들에 비해 여성으로서의 삶과 운명을 잘 보여주는 인물들이기도 하다. 특히 두 여성 인물은 남성과의 만남을 통해서 새로운 삶의 국면을 맞이하고, 남성들과의 관계 속에서 자신의 정체성을 수립해 간다는 데에서도 공통점을 찾을 수 있다. 두 여성 인물들은 농경신으로서의 정체성을 남성들과의 대립적 관계속에서 확립시켜 간다. 천상의 남성인물, 자신을 추방하는 친부, 감금 혹은 겁탈하려는 남성들, 이들과의 대립 체계 속에서 새로운 가치를 탐색하고, 기존 질서체계에서 벗어나며, 시련을 극복하고 자신을 성숙시킨다. 더욱이 두 여성 인물은 모두 애초의 정인과 재결합하지 못한 채 새로운 관계 형성을 통해 농경 원리를 형상화한다. 이것은 여성에 의해 혹은 여성성으로 상징되는 새로운 문화와 세계에 대한 발견이기도 하다. 남성과의 결합이 아닌 자생력을 갖춘 대지의 생산력을 획득한 것이다. 최초의 곡식 씨앗은 유화와 같이 땅속에서 유폐되어 자신을 죽여가며 새로운생명을 가꾸는 것이다. 유화는 기존의 남성들로 대표되는 세계와 결별하고 자신의 아들을 통해 새로운 세계를 개창했다. 자청비 역시 문도령이아닌 정수남이를 선택함으로써 수렵문화 체제에 드디어 농경을 전파하며 농경을 위한 목축문화 체계를 새롭게 도입하고 있다. 한국의 두 농경신은 곡종의 전파라는 업무뿐 아니라 자신의 삶을 통해 삶과 죽음, 재생으로 반복되는 농경의 원리와 그 속에 담긴 생명과 결실의 의미를 체화하고 있는 것이다.

Yuhwa is a heroine in Korea`s representative foundation myth and Jacheongbi is a heroine in shaman agricultural myth . The is written myth and transmitted in the north of the Korean peninsula. The is oral myth and transmitted in the Je-ju island. In addition, each heroine showed the opposite behavior categories. But each female protagonist as the heroine of the myth has a common feature as agricultural origin. In addition, these women showed the women`s lives and fate better than the other characters in Korean mythology. Also the journey of two women`s life can be summarized as meeting and parting with men. Yuhwa and Jacheongbi voluntarily or involuntarily formed the opposition system with male characters; the first lover who is from the heaven, the father who expels daughter and the tough and strong guy who imprisons or tries to rape woman. In the system heroines quested new value and got out of old culture and world. Yuwha broke the old world and made a new world by helping her own son. Jacheongbi`s choosing Jeongsunami, not Mundoryoeng made possible to introduce the agricultural culture and system on the ground. Through the course of their life Yuhwa and Jacheongbi were setting up their own identity as the agricultural goddess. They acquired a rich production of the earth through the journey of own life.
