이 논문은 장화왕후와 공예태후 열전의 서사적 특징과 의미를 왕후와 권력 관계의 관점에서 논의한 것이다. 장화왕후의 서사에는 왕후의 강렬한 욕망과 그 실현, 적극적인 행위가 반영되어 있다. 공예태후의 서사에는 다양한 태몽주체의 욕망과 그 실현이 투영되어 있다. 이렇게 보면 두 왕후의 서사는 태몽주체들의 욕망이 실현되는 방식으로 서사되어 있다. 하지만 역사적으로 볼 때 장화왕후의 경우 아들 혜종이 재위 2년만에 사망하고 자신은 태후의 호칭도 얻지 못했다는 점에서 그녀의 열전은 실패한 역사에 대한 서사로 읽힌다. 공예태후의 경우 욕망을 실현한 태몽주체들이 무신란의 세력에 의해 정치적 실권을 잃음으로써, 그리고 세 임금 역시 고려 역사상 가장 무력한 임금이었다는 점에서 역시 실패한 역사에 대한 서사로서의 의미를 지닌다. 요컨대, 장왕후와 공예태후 열전은 표면상으로는 태몽주체들의 욕망이 실현되는 방식으로 서사가 이루어진 것처럼 보이지만, 궁극적으로는 그러한 실현이 비정상적으로 이루어졌거나, 공허한 양상을 띤다는 점에서 실패한 역사에 대한 서사로서의 의미를 지닌다고 할 수 있다.

I studied on the narrative characteristics and meanings of the Queen Janghwa and the Queen Dowager Gongye`s biographies from the terms of the relations between queen and power. The narrative of the Queen Janghwa expresses the powerful desires and the positive actions of queens, based on the crown prince dream. This means that she overcame to the status complex and realized her own desire of approaching to power by making her son to king. On the other hand, the narrative of Queen Dowager Gongye is based on the queen dream. Therefore the desires of diverse dream subjects is reflected in it. As mentioned above, the narratives of this two queens are expressed in the way that the desires of dream subjects are realized. But historically, the Queen Janghwa`s biography had red as the narrative of the fail history in the ways that her son the King Hyejong`s time on the throne was merely two years, and she herself couldn`t achieve designation of the Queen Dowager. The Queen Dowager Gongye`s biography can be also accepted the narrative of the fail history in the ways that the dream subjects realized desires lost the reins of government by the Musin coup and her sons three kings were also the best ineffective kings in history of the Goryeo. In brief the narratives of the Queen Janghwa and the Queen Dowager Gongye appear that they make up as the way the desires of dream subjects are realized, but ultimately they can be accepted the narrative of the fail history in the way that they were abnormally realized and took on hollow aspect.
