이 논문은 조선시대의 기생의 삶을 ``노기(老妓)``의 측면에서 재구성하고자 한다. 노기 개개인의 복잡다단한 삶의 결을 일반화할 수는 없다. 다만 조선시대의 특수한 계층·직업인이었던 기생이 기생이기 때문에 겪어야 하는 노년의 전형적인 모습을 고찰하고자 한다. 기생의 노년의 행로는 기생의 경제적 처지와 섹슈얼리티와 밀접한 상관관계가 있다. 이에본고에서는 기생이 노제(老除)를 맞는 공식적인 기준과는 별도로, 생물학적 나이와는 별도로, 기생에게 부여하는 사회적 노년을 일반적인 사람들이 겪어야 하는 나이보다 훨씬 이른 나이에 맞이해야 했다는 사실에 주목을 한다. 이 점이 기생의 노년의 삶, 경제적 현실, 섹슈얼티를 규정하는 요인이 되었기 때문이다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 기생들이 사회에 의해 타의에 의해 닥쳐온 사회적 노년을 어떻게 겪고 준비했었던가를 살펴보고 이를 통해 기생의 경제적 현실, 섹슈얼리티의 특징 등을 밝히고자 한다. 보통 기생의 섹슈얼리티는 남성의 측면에서 남성이 어떻게 기생의 섹슈얼리티를 향유하는가의 측면에서 이야기된다. 그런데 반대로 기생은 자신의 섹슈얼리티를 어떻게 관리하는가, 특히 노기의 관점에서 기생들이 자신들의 섹슈얼리티를 어떻게 관리하는가의 측면에서 살펴보고자 한다. 기생의 섹슈얼리티 관리는 기생의 노년의 대책과 그들의 경제적 현실, 그들의 실존성, 인간의 가치의 측면에서 관리가 된다.

The names of the 19th century`s female artists have been known, but the substance of their art hasn`t been well known. Except ``Bamboo Valley``, there is almost no work of art. But, Uncho and Uncho group`s females acted as a literary artist and painter and recorded characteristics of their art creation, appreciation and collection in the Chinese poem. In this study, Uncho who wasn`t considered in the preceding studies was analyzed as the artist, appreciator & critic and collector based on these materials. Therefore, this study analyzed what females studied as the artist, what the characteristics of criticism and appreciation were, and how they collected the paintings and writings. That is, the study examined characteristics of the painting. This study will contribute to drawing a topographical map of the 19th century`s art.
