Lope de Vega was one of the most representative figures in the 17th century, which was considered as the golden age of Spanish literature. This research compares and analyzes his works and Chunhyangjeon, one of the most delicate pieces in Korean classic novels. The purpose of this analysis is to view the matter related to the honor and the chastity of women in both regions at that period, and to compare and contrast similarities and differences between those two areas. For this comparison, two of Lope de Vega`s works called El mejor alcalde, el rey and Peribanez y el comendador de Ocana, which have similar plots and themes with Chunhyangjeon, have been chosen. Chunhyangjeon and two plays of Lope are very similar. All of those works are portraying the chastity and honor of women, and they all have spirits to stand up against the existing society, the one that is controlled by the man in power. However, Chunhyangjeon and two plays of Lope have different fundamental viewpoint towards the chastity and honor of women. We could explain it with the cultural gap caused by different historical and spatial backgrounds as Chunhyangjeon is based on the end of Joseon Dynasty, while other two plays of Lope are placed in 17th century Spain. In other words, this could be explained as difference between the notion of chastity in Confucianism and that in Christianity.
