This Paper insist that the women appeared in Joo Yo-seup`s short story in 1920-30`s have the subalternity that Spivak suggests definition, and this women were suffering by national, classical and gender discrimination. Joo Yo-seup was birth in Christian family and was graduated at mission school, so he concerned on the low-class people. It is reason that Joo discribed the low-class people in his novel which is narrowed to low-class women. Joo tries to talk to Old women who cannot speak by herself which suggests definition by Spivak. In his novel, husbands or man who burdens to support his family have no choice but to leave his family and earn the money in foreign country, so the women, grand mother and children are suffering by hunger and the cold weather. Especially women experience far more suffering because they nurse their children herself and lose her children by hunger. Women are subalterns who are suffering national and classical contradictions. In later 1930`s Joo published the story about a woman who is fall in love a man at a look but simultaneously she recognizes that she cannot merry with him because she is a hooker or ugly or widow. This prove that Joo intends to show the Old-woman are discriminated by gender and the reason that she cannot merry her lover because of the society and custom.
