이 연구는 미국과 프랑스의 대표적인 국어 교과서인 『문식성 공간』과 『새로운 프랑스어 마당』의 5학년용 교과서를 책제와 외형 체제, 단원 구성 방식, 단원 구성 체제 면에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과 두 교과서 모두 책제가 다양하며 풍부한 자료를 제공하고 있다는 점, 주제 중심의 단원구성 방식을 취하고 있다는 점, 문학 제재를 중시하면서도 언어 기능의 충실한 교육을 위해 활동집을 적극적으로 개발, 활용한다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 우리나라 교과서 개발에 주는 시사점을 모색한바, 책제를 다양화하고, 유의미한 미디어 자료를 풍부하게 할 것, 제재 선택에서 장르의 다양성을 고려할 것, 총체적인 학습을 지향하면서도 세부적인 지식과 기능 학습이 균형적으로 이루어질 수 있게 할 것, 텍스트를 심층적으로 다루는 언어 경험을 제공할 것 등을 논의하였다.

This study analyzed the representative language textbooks, 『Literacy Place』 and 『Le nouvel atelier de Francais』, for 5thgrade elementary students in the view of textbook system, external structure and unit composing system. The results showed that both of the textbook systems were providing various and rich materials, using a unit composing method centering on a theme and developing and utilizing workbooks for detailed language education attaching the importance of literature. In search for the suggestions to improvise our textbook based on these results, diversification of textbook system, providing meaningful media programs, various genres choosing materials, balanced study to learn both detailed knowledge and skills aiming wholesome education and providing a language opportunity to deal texts in depth are discussed.
