본고는 현행 16종의 고등학교 1학년 국어 교과서에서 현대소설 수용양상을 살펴보고 몇 가지 문제점과 대안을 제시하였다. 단원 구성 면에서, 대부분의 교과서들이 교육과정의 문학 영역의 성취기준을 달성하기 위해 현대소설 제재를 활용하고 있으며, 일부는 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 문법 영역의 성취 기준과 엮어서 단원을 구성하는 참신한 시도도 있었다. 수록 작품 면에서, 교과서마다 현대소설 제재가 차지하는 비중이 큰 차이를 보였는데, 전체적으로 이전보다 많이 축소되었다. 또 시기, 인물의 성별과 직업, 시공간, 길이 유형 측면에서 다양하지 못한 아쉬움이 있었다. 학습 내용 요소 면에서, 대부분의 교과서가 교육과정에서 제시한 성취기준과 내용 요소를 충실히 반영하였지만, 인물, 배경, 플롯과 같은 작품의 이야기적 요소가 중시된 반면, 시점과 서술과 같은 담론적 요소가 소홀히 다뤄지고 있었다. 학습 활동 면에서, 이번 교과서는 이전보다 다양하고 흥미로운 활동들로 구성되어 있었다. 다만 아직도 일부는 학습 활동의 실현 가능성이나 교육적 가치를 생각할 때 다소 막연하거나 불필요한 활동들을 제시하고 있었다. 앞으로는 더욱 정교하고 구체적이며 실효성 있는 활동들로 교수자나 학습자 모두가 실제적으로 성취 기준을 달성해 나갈 수 있기를 바란다.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze 16 kinds of new Korean textbooks for the first grade high school learners. After analysis of the system of units, most of the Korean textbooks followed achievement standards of literature field in the 2007 curriculum. but some textbooks combained achievement standards of listening, speaking, reading, and grammar. After analysis of novel works, modern novels become of less importance than before curricular Korean textbooks. Also it is not various in year of publication, gender and job of the charactes, chronotope, division. After analysis of learning contents, most of the Korean textbooks make more of story such as chracters, background, and plot, than discourse such as point of view and narration. After analysis of learning activities, the activities should be not too large and obscure, and made in a way stimulating the divergent thinking.
