청암 박태준의 포스텍(POSTECH, 포항공과대학교) 설립은 ``교육보국(敎育報國)``의 이념과 함께 태어났다. 또한 청암의 교육보국이념은 ``제철보국(製鐵報國)``에 기반을 두고 있다. 교육보국은 ``교육을 통해 국가에 보답한다``는 뜻이며, 제철보국은 철강산업을 발전시켜서 국가에 보답한다는 의미이다. 즉 제철보국의 수단으로서 포스텍은 설립되었다. 청암이 제시한 교육보국의 실천방법은 크게 산학연(産學硏)협력 교육과 국가인재양성교육이다. 그러나 이러한 교육보국은 오늘날 3가지 차원에서 도전을 받고 있다. 첫째, 교육의 수단화 문제이다. 즉 청암은 교육보국 및 제철보국의 목표를 위해 교육을 수단적 가치로 활용했다. 둘째, 청암의 교육보국이념은 오늘날 ``탈국가 시대의 교육적 이기주의`` 국면에 맞서면서 위기를 맞고 있다. 셋째, 포스텍이 추구하는 산학연협력교육과 기초과학연구중심 교육 간의 이율배반의 문제가 남아 있다. 이에 대해서 청암 교육보국이념의 전망도 생각해 볼 수 있다. 특히 청암의 포스텍 설립이념을 교육학적으로 천착해 보면서 대학설립자의 ``사리사욕배재``의 신념 즉 청렴성(淸廉性)은 대학운영의 전반에서 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 사실을 읽어 낼 수 있었다. 특히 ``사학의 자율권 남용 문제``가 다시 심각해지는 지금 청암의 포스텍 설립이념에 대한 연구는 우리 대학교육의 현주소를 재점검하는 고등교육담론에 일조할 수 있을 것이다.
The establishment of POSTECH by Park Tae Jun was born with the idea of Kyoyukbokuk, which is based on the idea of Jaechulboguk. This idea means the return to the nation through steel manufacture business, while that idea means the return to the nation through the educational business and activities. In brief, POSTECH is founded as a practical method, mean and strategy to realize the idea of Jaechulboguk. This method which was presented by Tae Jun Park, a founder of POSTECH, are composed of cooperative education system between business and university, and education for national elitism at the university. Although many results, they may criticize such a method in three dimensional terms. Firstly, we assume that the purpose for establishing of POSTECH is only an application of the instrumental value in education. Secondly, Tae Jun`s idea of Kyoyukboguk meets with a crisis in the aspect of educational egoism today which is prevailing in the post-modern and post-national era very rapidly. Thirdly, there remains the problem of ``antinomy`` between the systems of industry-university cooperative education and higher education of basic science based research, which was presented as the idea for the establishment of POSTECH by Park Tai Jun, the founder of POSTECH. On the contrary, we have a good prospect for the future of Tae Jun`s idea of Kyoyukbokuk. Especially, we can find out the fact that the belief of Park Tae Jun, as a founder of private university, in ``unselfishness and impartiality`` or ``upright and absolute honesty`` plays the most important role for the management and development of a university, when we search the history and tradition of POSTECH in the view of educational research. Especially in the regard of the abuse of their authority in private colleges, this educational study on the idea and it`s practice of Park Tae Jun for the establishment and operation of POSTECH will devote to review the present position of our university in order to develop the discourse on higher education in Korea today.
