본고는 ``玩物喪志``라는 말의 사회적 함의가 시대의 변천에 따라 다르게 바뀌어 갔다는 점에 착안하여, 그 의미 변화의 맥락을 짚어보기 위해 작성되었다. 이 ``완물상지``는 문예나 또는 技藝의 영역을 기반으로 형성되어 다양한 층위에서 변용되었다. 그만큼 다층적 의미를 가지게 되었는데, 이런 이유로 이를 통해 문예에 대한 인식의 다양한 층차에 접근하는 일이 가능해진다. 본고는 이를 실증적으로 확인하기 위한 작업의 하나이다. 색다른 시각에서 문예사의 전개 과정을 엿볼 수 있게 만들어주는 하나의 가늠자로써 이 ``완물상지``라는 말을 활용하여 보았다.

This study focuses on the point that the social implications of ``Wanmulsangji (玩物喪志)`` have changed by time went on. This research examines the context of its semantic changes. This ``Wanmulsangji`` was formed with the basis of literature or handicraft area and has changed in various strata. Thus, it has multiple layers of meanings, and this allows us to approach to various different strata of consciousness for literature. This article is a task to verify this positively. This study uses the word of ``Wanmulsangji`` as a sight to see the process of developing the history of literature from an original perspective.
