본 연구는 어린이집의 만 1세와 만 2세 영아반에서 진행되는 하루 일과 중 낮잠시간이 영아와 영아교사에게 주는 의미에 대하여 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 예비유아교사와 학부모들의 낮잠시간에 대한 잘못된 시각과 부정적인 인식을 전환시키고, 더 나아가 긍정적이고 효율적인 낮잠시간의 운영방안에 대한 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 다양한 배경을 가지고 현재 어린이집에서 만 1세와 만 2세 영아를 담당하고 있는 보육교사 13명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 낮잠시간이 영아에게 주는 의미에서는 첫째, 폭발을 유발하는 점화시간, 둘째, 에너지를 보충하는 시간, 셋째, 단짝 친구를 만드는 시간, 넷째, 멋진 형님 탄생의 시간으로 나타났으며, 교사에게 주는 의미에서는 첫째, 누군가 도움의 손길이 필요한 시간, 둘째, 영아마다 재우는 방법이 다름을 알아야 하는 시간, 셋째, 다른 보육업무를 해야만 하는 시간, 넷째, 편안해져 가는 영아를 보면서 뿌듯함을 느끼는 시간으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the meaning of employing nap-times to children in 1~2 year-old infants` classes, which is a routine activity in child care institutions. This study aimed to provide basic information to change the inaccurate perspectives of pre-teachers, parents and society. Pre-teachers tend to think that they do not need to prepare for nap-time compared to other activities; and infants go to sleep well with little difficulty. Parents tend to have negative perspective in which they assume that 1~2 year-old infants` nap-time is used as a time for teachers to rest. 13 childcare teachers participated in in-depth interviews. As a result of the analysis, parents were able to recognize several reasons for using nap-time amongst infants. First of all, the hours of uncertainty when light was off (?); secondly, the time is used as an energy recharging time; third, it is a time to make your best friends. Finally, the time of birth of the great brother (?). The meanings of the nap time for teachers were: first, as a time to get help from other people; second, as a time to get to know how to make children sleep individually; third, as a time to doing other jobs while children are sleeping; finally, as a time to have a sense of satisfaction by watching children feeling comfortable.
