국어 교육의 이념이란 국어 교육의 목적, 목표와 관련한 관념 체계를 말한다. 국어 교육의 이념 요소로는 국어관, 문자관, 영역관, 세계관을 들 수 있다. 국어관에서는 국어를 한민족의 언아로서보다 대한민국의 국가 공용어로서의 자격을 중시해야 하며 현대 한국어는 통일신라의 삼국통일에 기원하므로 북한의 고구라 중심 사관의 역사 조작을 경계해야 한다. 문자관에서는 한글의 독창성을 과학적으로 규명하고 선양해야 하자만 한글 우월성을 기반으로 한 국수주의적 문자 민족주의는 한글문화 발전에 해로우므로 유의해야 한다. 우리가 한자를 배워야 함은 중국 글자라서가 아니라 조상의 문자였기 때문이며 한자를 유럽의 라틴문자처럼 동아시아 공용문어로 보지 않고 중국 글자로만 보거나 상형문자라고 얕보고 배우기 어려운 문자로만 비하하는 편견은 버려야 한다. 한자의 90%기 형성(形聲) 원리라 알파벳처럼 표음문자의 성질을 가짐을 알아야 한다. 한자가 조상이 사용한 문자이므로 온고이지신을 위해서라도 국민 90%가 찬성하는 한자 조기교육을 반드시 실현 할 필요가 있다. 영역관에서는 다민족국가를 위한 서구의 4기능 중심의 교육과정이 서구에 서도 낮은 문식성 때문에 위기에 봉착하여 있으므로 단일민족 전통의 우리가 서구형 4기능 앙역을 무조건 모방할 필요가 없고 우리 전통과 실정에 맞는 교육과정 영역 구성이 정립되어야 한다. 세계관에서는 국어 교육이 다양한 세계관을 담은 명문을 통해 세계관 교육의 역할을 수행하여야 함을 증시해야 한다. 국어과의 지식을 핵심 지식과 주제 지식으로 나눌 때, 국사`` 도덕, 사회, 과학, 예술 체육 교과 둥과 관련한 주요 명문을 국어과에서 다룸으로써 주제 지식 차원에서도 국어과는 이들 교과를 돕는 훌륭한 도구 교과 역할을 수행하게 된다. 특히 인성 교육과 국가 정체성 교육의 부실을 막고자 다양한 교과의 ``주제 지식``을 국어 교육에서 가르쳐야 한다.

In a world view, Korean language education can perform the education of a world view through using texts of various word views. The topical knowledge of excellent composition in a various collection of classical literature and prose should be taught to prevent insufficient education of national identity and morality.
