이 글은 해방기에 있어서 ``자기비판`` 문제와 ``검열`` 문제를 검토함으로써 『응향』사건을 새롭게 조명하고, 월남문인으로서 구상시인이 남한 문단에서 정착해가는 토대로서 『응향』사건의 의미를 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 주지하다시피 『응향』사건은 해방 이후 가장 많이 알려진 필화사건으로 남북한 문학계에 커다란 파장을 일으킨 사건이다. 아울러 월남문인의 삶을 조명하는데 있어서 가장 전형적이고 극적인 면을 보여주는 사건이기도 하다. 『응향』사건이 기존 논의에서 많이 언급이 되었음에도 불구하고, 이 글이 지니고 있는 문제의식은 다음과 같다. 기본적으로 『응향』이라는 시집을 현재 확인할 수 없다는 것, 그에 따라 해방 이후 월남한 구상과 강홍운의 기억에 의해 재구성되고 있다는 것, 『응향』사건에 대한 기존의 논의가 문학사적 흐름에서 단편적으로 논의되고 있으며 북한 문학에 미친 영향에 대한 논의로 지극히 제한적이라는 것이다. 『응향』사건은 단순한 필화사건의 범주를 넘어 서서, 정치와 문학의 관계에 대한 측면과 남한과 북한 문학의 대타적인 면을 강화한 측면, 그리고 한 개인의 내면에 끼친 영향 등 다양한 측면의 모습을 담고 있다, 따라서 이 글은 가급적 다양한 자료를 통하여 시집 『응향』을 재구성하고, 검열과 자기비판을 중심으로 응향사건이 북한문학에 끼친 영향 그리고 구상 시인 개인에게 끼친 영향을 살펴보고자 했다.

The purpose of this study is to observe the meaning of 『EUNGHYANG』event, the basis of settlement of poet Koo Sang as a writer from North Korea in the South literary circles by reviewing the issues of self criticism and censorship in the liberalization period to shed new light on 『EUNGHYANG』event. As noted, 『EUNGHYANG』event is a well known writing indictment which had greatly impacted both the South and the North literary circles. In addition, it is an event that shows most typical and dramatic aspect in shedding light on the lives of writers from the North Korea. In spite that this event was frequently discussed in the previous researches, the critics proposed in this study are as follows. Basically, the book of poems 『EUNGHYANG』is currently not ascertained the existence. Thereabout, it is recomposed by Koo Sang and Kang Hong Woon`s memories after liberalization. And, the existing discussion on 『EUNGHYANG』event is fragmentary in literary history flow, discussion on its effect on the literature of the North Korea, which was extremely limited. Beyond the scope of simple writing indictment, 『EUNGHYANG』event contains various aspects, the relationship between politics and literature, strengthening contradiction of the literatures of the South and the North Korea and its effect on the individual`s inner image. Therefore, this study recomposed the book of poems 『EUNGHYANG』through lots of materials as many as possible to observe its effect on the literary circles of the South and North Korea and its effect on Koo Sang himself.
