이 글의 목적은 미군정기 중등용 국어 교과서의 편찬 과정을 재검토하는 데 있다. 해방 후 교과서를 대상으로 하는 기존의 연구들은 대개 교과서가 이데올로기 기구 가운데 하나라는 전제하에 교과서가 어떻게 특정 이데올로기를 주입시켜 왔는지 분석해 왔다. 이들 연구가 지닌 의의를 무시할 수 없지만, 그 가운데는 교과서가 편찬된 일련의 과정들에 대한 실체적 검토가 불충분하여 몇몇 중요한 오류들을 드러내고 있는 경우도 있었다. 이 글은 조선어학회가 펴낸 중등용 국어 교과서의 편찬 과정을 재검토함으로써 기존의 오류를 바로잡는 한편, 이 문제를 바라보는 새로운 토대를 마련하고자 하였다. 기존의 연구들이 교과서의 제재 선택을 몇몇 개인들의 영향으로 이야기해 온 것과 달리, 이 글은 교과서 편찬에 관여한 제 단체들 사이의 역학 관계 속에서 이 문제를 바라보고자 하였다. 구체적으로 이 글은 조선어학회가 교과서 편찬 과정에서 어떤 역할을 했는지, 조선어학회 중심의 교과서 편찬 방침에 제 학술단체들이 어떻게 반발했는지, 이 과정에서 좌파 계열의 문화 단체였던 조선문화건설중앙협의회가 어떠한 역할을 하고, 국어 교과서 편찬에는 어떻게 개입했는지 그 과정을 재구성하였다.

This paper aims at discussing the circumstance of publishing the textbook Korean in the period of American Military Administration. Previous studies have looked into how the textbooks have injected a certain ideology into students supposing the textbook is one of ideological apparatus. Regardless of some important achievements, these studies lack empirical investigation on the circumstance of publishing the textbook Korean, and have made some mistakes. Besides these have focused on some individuals and concluded they influenced on editing the textbook Korean. However this paper have dealt with it in relations among scholarly groups, specifically observed what roles the Society of Joseoneo(조선어학회) played in the process of editing the textbook Koran, how the other scholarly groups reacted to it, how the Central Council of Constructing Korean Culture(조선문화건설중앙협의회) formed the Committee of Researching and Publishing the Textbooks(국정교과서편찬연구위원회) gathering them and changed some policies of editing textbooks. This paper also have observed how the Central Council of Constructing Korean Culture intervened in editing the textbook Korean.
