이러닝, 모바일러닝을 넘어 ``스마트러닝``이 화두가 되고 있다. 그러나 스마트러닝의 개념, 실현 기술, 구현 방식 등 모두 초창기이기 때문에 완전한 정의는 아직 없다. 여러 논의를 종합하면 스마트러닝은 ``정보기술 및 기기를 활용해 자기 수준과 적성, 요구에 맞는 협력 학습 및 개별학습, 형식학습 및 비형식학습을 통해 자기주도적, 창의적 학습역량 개발이 가능한 교육 패러다임이자 이를 실현하는 교육 방법``이라고 정의할 수 있다. 스마트러닝을 적용한 외국어교육이 흔한 것은 아니나 휴대전화, PDAs, 아이팟, 앱 등을 활용한 사례가 있다. 사용하는 모바일 기기와 구현하는 조건에 따라 학습 성과가 달라지기는 하지만 대체적으로 학습자들은 호의적인 반응을 보였다. 한국어교육에서의 스마트러닝은 현재 앱이나 팟캐스트 등을 통해 가능하다. 개발되어 있는 앱이나 팟캐스트의 숫자가 적지 않음을 통해 스마트러닝과 한국어교육이 융합되어 성과를 낼 가능성을 엿볼 수 있다. 앞으로 학습자의 편의성, 접근성, 사용성을 고려하고, 학습자의 요구를 반영하고, 학습 성과를 향상시킬 수 있는 한국어교육의 스마트러닝을 위해서 다음과 같은 점이 고려되어야 한다. 먼저 앱과 팟캐스트의 형식이 다양화되어야 한다. 주교재, 보조교재 등 다양한 쓰임새가 고려되어야 하며, 학습 대상, 학습 목적, 학습 내용이 다양해지고 특화되어야 한다. 또한 현재의 자원을 활용해 구현할 수 있는 스마트러닝의 새로운 유형들을 고민해야 한다. 마지막으로 한국어 교육 전문가들의 스마트러닝에 대한 인식 고양과 전문가와의 협업 그리고 관련 정부부처들간 일관된 정책이 요구된다.

SMART Learning is emerging. There is no settled definition about SMART Learning yet because it is in the embryonic stage. However, synthesizing various discussions about SMART Learning we can conceptualize it. SMART Learning is a paradigm and learning system at the same time. SMART Learning makes students learn autonomously in compliance with their needs, levels and aptitude through collaborative and individual learning using technologies. Currently SMART Learning for Korean can be implemented with some Apps and podcasts. It is hopeful that there is lots of apps and podcasts for learning Korean as foreign and second language. However, we need to consider some points for the effective convergence of SMART Learning and Korean education as below. First we should develop various formations of apps and podcasts. Also we should think of various uses of contents and specialized contents according to learners` purpose of learning and learning items. New ways of SMART Learning using existing technologies should be devised. Lastly Korean teaching professionals should be award of the age of SMART Learning and should cooperate with SMART Learning professionals while studying deeply into the effects and variables of it continuously.
