본고는 남북의 문장부호 규정을 비교 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 하여 그 통일방안을 살펴본 것이다. 남북 문장부호 규정의 통일 방안은 크게 체계적인 측면, 형식적인 측면, 내용적인 측면으로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. 체계적인 측면에서는 문장부호의 어문규정상 지위와 체계에 관련한 문제가, 형식적인 측면에서는 문장부호의 명칭과 형태에 관련한 문제가, 내용적인 측면에서는 문장부호의 기능과 띄어쓰기에 관련한 문제가 있다. 여기서는 내용적인 측면 가운데 문장 부호의 기능에 한정하여 남북 문장부호 관련 규정과 사용 실태를 비교 분석하고 그 통일방안을 모색하였다.

The aim of this study is to compare and analyze the potential for uniform punctuation for South and North Korea grammar. The study will look to analyze the systematic, formal and contents grammar of both countries. For systematic grammar we will analyze punctuation positioning. For formal, we will analyze the proper name of punctuation and its form, and for contents we will research the spacing needed and used for punctuation. However, due to space limitations this present paper will only discussed the potential for uniform punctuation as it relates to the function criteria.
