본 논문에서는 1960-70년대 한국문학에 나타난 고향담론을 통해, 근대화 시기 호출된 ``고향``(담론)이 서울/지방의 공간적 위상에 어떻게 개입하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 오늘날 고착화된 서울/지방, 중심/주변의 이분법적 경계에 대해 재사유하고자 한다. 근대적 공간의 기획 안에서 고향은 장소의 물질성보다는 추상화된 관계적 틀에 의해 지정학적 위치를 부여받았다. 그러나 1960-70년대 김승옥이나 이청준의 텍스트에서 탈향 주체들이 서울을 체험하는 이중적태도나, 이와 매개되어 발견하는(되는) 고향에 대한 모순적 인식에서 당대의 중심/주변이 고정적이지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 탈향-귀향의 반복적 체험 안에서 탈향(귀향) 주체들이 지방-서울-국가-세계의 중층화 된질서들을 경험하면서 주체의 인식은 중층결정화 되고, 세계에 대한 양가적 인식은 주체의 분열로 이어졌다. 이러한 주체의 분열은 공간적 위계의 상대화를 설명할 수 있는 틀을 제공해 주었다. 이곳은 선망과 질시의 양가적 인식태도 안에서 호출된 고향이 근대 이분법의 공간 질서로 환원되지 않는 지점이기도 하다. 이러한 지점은 오늘날 중심/주변의 로컬리티에 대한 반성적 성찰을 제공할 수 있다.
This paper examines how the ``hometown``(discourse) treated in the period of Modernization intervenes in the spatial status of Seoul/the provinces, analyzing the hometown discourse in Korean literature in the 1960s and 70s. It is to have a rethink the fixed dichotomous boundary of Seoul/the local, center/periphery today. In a project of the modern space, the hometown was granted a geopolitical position by the abstracted relational frame rather than the materiality of space. The dichotomy of Seoul/the provinces hardened in the process. But in the texts of Kim Seungok and Lee Cheongjun in the 1960s and 70s, the ambivalent attitude of the subjects escaping from a hometown to experiencing Seoul and the consequential contradictory recognition of a hometown demonstrate that the then center/periphery wasn`t fixed. The subjects experiencing the stratified order of the provinces-Seoul-state-world in the repetitive experiences of escaping from-returning to their hometown, the recognition of subject was crystallized stratifiedly and the ambivalent recognition of the world led to the split of subject. This subject split offered the framework which could explain the relativization of the spatial hierarchy. The framework is also the point that the hometown revealed in the ambivalent recognition of envy and jealousy wasn`t reduced to the spatial order of the modern dichotomy. The very this point can provide a reflective thinking about the locality of center/periphery today.
