윤동주는 한국 문학사에서 일제 말기를 대표하는 시인으로 확고부동한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 흔히 그에게 따라다니는 ``암흑기 하늘의 별````식민지 최후의 별``이라는 수사적 표현이 말해주듯이 일본 제국주의의 압제가 가중되던 시절 씌어진 그의 시편들은 그 서정적이고 내성적인작품 성격에도 불구하고 주로 민족적이고 저항적인 측면에서 다루어져왔다. 이를 가장 잘 보여주는 것이 그의 시에 나타난 빛/어둠 이미지에 대한 설명이다. 즉 그의 시에 나오는 어둠은 식민지 시대 상황에 대한은유로, 빛은 조국 광복에 대한 희망의 표시로 보는 단선적인 해석이 주류를 이루어왔다. 본고는 윤동주의 시에 대해 정신분석학적 해명을 시도한 글로서 그의 시에 나오는 향암성(向暗性)의 상상력이 갖고 있는 의미를 탐구한 것이다. 그 결과 이 시인의 무의식 속에 숨어 있는 모성 고착, 자궁회귀욕망 등을 구체적 이미지 분석을 통해 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 순수한 영혼으로 살고자 했던 그의 내면에 그가 의식하지도 통제하지도 못했던 욕망과 정념이 교차하고 있었던 것이다. 이런 시각에서 보면 그의 시는 모성적 공간으로부터 추방당한 영혼이 세계와 불화하며 떠돌다가 다시 어머니와 상상적 일체감을 얻는 순간으로 나아가는 순환적 여정을 그리고 있다는 사실을 발견하게 된다. 따라서 이 시인의 시에서 어둠 이미지는 부정적으로, 빛 이미지는 긍정적으로 현상한다는 고정관념 역시 수정될 필요가 있다.

Dong Joo Yoon occupies a firm position in Korean literature as a representative poet of the late Japanese colonial period. As Dong Joo`s rhetoric nicknames such as ``the star in the dark age sky`` or ``the last star of the colony`` tell us, his poems written during the period of the aggravated oppression of Japanese imperialism have been interpreted as dealing with Korean ethnic group and resistance even though his work is lyrical and introspective by nature. Accordingly, the image of the light/dark in the poems are interpreted in a way that fits best for the mainstream interpretation. In other words, the unilinear interpretation that the dark in the poems is viewed as a metaphor for the colonial era and the light in the poems is viewed as the sign of hope for the independence of one`s country has been the mainstream interpretation. Attempting to interpret Dong Joo Yoon`s poems in the light of psychoanalysis, this article searches for the meaning of imagination of Scototropism in his poems. As a result, such attempt could unearth the phenomenon of mother fixation, the desire to return to the womb and other desires buried deep in the poet`s subconscious through a detailed image analysis. What I found is the poet wanted to live as a pure soul kept desire and passion in his inner world that he couldn`t even sense and control. From this perspective, his poems depict the cyclical journey: a soul expelled from the maternal space wonders the world experiencing discord and proceeds to the moment of gaining the imaginative sense of unity with the mother. Therefore, the stereotype of the manifestation that the dark image is negative and the light image is positive should be modified.
