이 글은 한국어의 공간성 명사, 앞, 뒤, 전(前), 후(後)가 시간성을 획득하는 양상을 인지언어학적(cognitive linguistic) 관점에서 해석하고, 그 결과를 다른 언어와 비교해 봄으로써 이 언어 현상이 실제로 인간의 인지 과정에서 비롯된 것인지 확인하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 그 결과 공간성 명사 ``앞, 뒤, 전(前), 후(後)``가 은유적 확장을 통해 시간성을 획득하는 과정과 획득된 시간성이 다시 분화되는 양상이 확인되었다. 또한 이들의 공간적·시간적 의미가 언어 내부적으로 밀접하게 연결된 까닭에 생기는 몇몇 제약적인 현상들과, 이들이 언어 외부적인 문화 요소와 접촉하면서 나타나게 되는 흥미로운 현상을 확인하였다. 그리고 한국어의 ``앞, 뒤, 전(前), 후(後)``가 보이는 이 같은 양상을 다른 언어에서도 발견할 수 있는지 확인한 결과 중국어, 일본어, 만주어 등에서도 한국어와 동일한 현상을 관찰할 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 다른 언어와의 비교 과정에서, 한국어의 ``앞, 뒤``가 과거에 지녔던 공간적인 의미와 시간적 개념을 나타냈던 또 다른 공간어에 대해 보다 폭넓은 관찰을 시도할 수 있었다.

This study aims to understand some aspects that several spatial nouns-앞(Ap), 뒤(Dui). 전(前 Jeon). 후(後. Hu)- extend to temporal nouns by a theory of cognitive linguistics. Furthermore, to identify that such a linguistic aspect is really caused by recognition of human, through comparing the Korean`s with other languages is the purpose of this study, too. As a result, I identified that the spatial nouns-앞(Ap), 뒤(Dui). 전(前, Jeon), 후(後, Lu)- acquire some characteristics of temporal nouns by metaphorical extension, the parts of cognitive linguistics. And some constrains of using these nouns are caused of that there are close connections among these nouns in internal language. On the other hand, there are some interesting linguistic aspects by contacting these nouns with cultural elements, external language. Lastly, I tried to compare the Korean with some other languages(Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Mancurian). As a result, there are some general linguistic points among these languages. Added to this, It was possible to consider the other Korean spatial nouns and temporal nouns which seem to have similar aspects with 앞(Ap), 뒤(Dui), 전(前, Jeon), 후(後, Hu) through such a comparing process.
