이 논문은 교수-학습 방법 개선을 위한 최선의 방법 중 하나로 인정받으면서도 구체적인 수업 실천에서는 제대로 활용되지 못하는 토론식 수업 활성화를 위한 방법을 제시하려는 목적을 지니고 있다. 토론식 수업이 정착되지 못하는 가장 큰 이유는 다양한 토론식 수업 방식에 대해 잘 알지 못하며, 그 많은 방법 중 자신의 수업에 알맞은 최선의 방법을 교사들이 제대로 찾지 못한다는 데 있다. 본고는 수업의 국면을 학습자의 도달수준과 달성하려는 학습목표에 따라 6개의 국면으로 나누고 이들 상황에 가장 알맞은 수업 방법을 제시함으로써 교사의 토론식 수업 실천을 돕고자 한다. 학습목표는 협력적 문제해결, 경쟁적 설득 지향, 상생을 향한 합의 지향의 세 가지로, 학습자의 도달 수준은 기본과 응용의 두 단계로 나누어 각 국면에 가장 적합한 수업 방법을 제시하였다. 수많은 수업 상황을 이처럼 단순화시켜 각각에 적합한 수업 방법을 제시한다면 비교적 토론식 수업에 익숙하지 못한 교사들도 쉽게 이를 실천할 수 있어 교실 수업 개선에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

This treaties aims at presenting how to activate the discussion class, which is recognized as one of the best methods for improving teaching but is not used properly. One of the main reasons the discussion class is not settled is that the instructors are unaware of a variety of the discussion class methods and unable to find out proper ones from the numerous methods. This thesis classifies the classes into 6 aspects according to learning objectives and the learners` achievement levels and presents the suitable teaching methods so that the instructors can practice the discussion class. We have divided learning objectives into three parts including cooperative problem solving, pursuing competitive persuasion, and pursuing concurrence for win-win conclusion, and assorted learners` achievement into basis and adaptation. Thus we presented teaching methods which are proper to each aspect. Simplifying the numerous learning conditions and presenting proper methods to each condition, teachers unfamiliar to discussion class can practice the method and our teaching will be able to be improved much.
