이 연구는 마포구 성미산지역의 도시마을 공동체를 기반으로 지난 2009년부터 실행되었던 ``마을인문학`` 프로그램의 구성 작업을 소개함과 동시에, 이것을 하나의 분석사례로 삼아, 마을을 기반으로 한 로컬 공공성의 실현가능성과 이를 위한 필요조건에 대해 논의한다, 이 논문에서는 첫째로, 인문학의 위기담론 속에서 탐색되어지고 있는 한국의 대학 밖 시민교육프로 그램 구축의 사회적 맥락을 사유하였으며, 둘째로, 마포구 성미산지역의 마을 만들기 프로젝트의 궤적을 통해 마을을 단위로 한 적합한 시민교육 모델을 역사성과 장소성의 개념을 매개로 하여 재구성해보고자 하였다. 셋째로, 마을 만들기 과정에서 발생되는 갈등 조절에 중요하게 요청되는 공통감의 형성에 있어, 공론장으로서의 마을인문학 프로그램의 역할과 기여에 대해 구성원들의 소통과 자기성찰 문제에 초점을 맞춰 분석하였다. 연구방법으로는 마을인문학 프로그램 참여자들이 어떻게 자신과 공동체에 대한 관계를 (재) 조정하고, 공동체를 둘러싼 문제에 접속하며, 이를 통해 어떠한 방식으로 자신의 정체성을 (재)구성해나가는지, 그들의 경험과 자기 해석을 통해 살펴보고자 하였다. 결론에서는, 마을이라는 공동체 단위에서 생성된 친밀성이 지속 가능한 마을인문학의 모델의 핵심적 가치임을 재확인하였으며, 소단위지역-마을-을 기반하여 구성 가능한 새로운 풀뿌리 거버넌스의 형식과 가치, 그리고 로컬 공공성의 미래 가능성을 ``마을인문학 네트워크``의 활성화라는 당면 과제와 연결시켜 조망해보았다.
The main purpose of this paper is to analyze an urban community located in the Mapo-gu Seongmisan region in Seoul, looking at collaborative work between a civic education program conducted by a research university and its virtuous circle. It also discusses future directions for social practice of Korean scholars in Humanities academics. For the above purpose, first, this paper thinks critically about the social context(s) of Korean civic education programs that have been institutionalized to date in the midst of the current crisis in Humanities, by re-considering Western historical cases and their endeavors for overcoming their Humanities crisis. Second, via the trajectory of the making of village, it tries to reconstruct a more sustainable civic education model, focusing on the concept of historicity and places-ness in urban areas. Third, this article discusses about the effect and also limits embedded in institutionalized collaboration works underpinning the ``village humanities`` project, thinking about the role and situation of researchers who are also the primary agency of the program. Finally, in the conclusion, with special concern about the characteristics and values stemming from the intimacy underlying the unit of community as ``village``, this study attempts a discussion of citizen identity and the new structure of governance as policy proposer as well as a future sustainable model for ``village humanities``.
