I studied the korean language education curriculum of the elementary teacher training institutions for the standpoint of the Elementary Korean Language Education`s Essence and identity In the past. the traits of the Elementary Korean Language Education are neglected and overlooked in the discussion of the general korean language education conception. This trend is due to the mistake that the korean language education traits of the middle school are same with those of the elementary school. To understand the essence of the elementary korean language education properly. one needs to approach from the bottom up. The bottom up view means that one should consider what the learner studied at kindergarten. and on the ground of that. setup the goal of the elementary korean language education. and in turn. on the ground of the elementary korean language education. setup the goal of the that of middle school. This view helps to inquire the essence of the elementary korean language education by grasping the human development stage in overall. The korean language education courses in elementary teacher training institutions should have the clear distinction and identity which are distinguishable from those of the Korean Language and Literature major and secondary Korean language education major. There are a lots of lectures that are adopted from the korean language literature course. and these lectures are not suitable for the elementary korean language education courses. It`s O.K that the elementary teacher has a wide knowledge by being educated with various lectures. But the problem is that the elementary teacher cannot have the essential knowledge by being learned what less important. So we need to distinguish between the indispensable subject and necessary subject to extend the teacher`s professionality. Namely. the indispensable subject are the subjects which are related to extend the elementary teacher`s teaching ability of korean language education. It is a priority matter that the indispensible subject should be learned in the elementary teacher training institutions.
