2010년의 6.2 지방선거에서는 지상파 방송 3사가 공동으로 참여하는 방송사 공동예측조사위원회를 구성하여 출구조사를 실시했다. 이 조사에서는 우리나라에서 최초로 모든 선거구에 대해 출구조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과 16개 시도지사 및 교육감 선거의 당선자 예측에 모두 성공했다. 그런데 출구조사의 예측 성공과는 별도로 과연 우리나라의 출구조사가 과연 통계학적인 측면에서 효율적으로 이루어지고 있는지를 체계적으로 연구할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라 출구조사의 효율성을 분석하고자 하는 시도의 일환으로 표본크기의 적절성을 살펴보고자 한다. 출구조사의 표본설계는 2단 집락추출법을 기본으로 이루어졌다. 따라서 본 연구에서는, 먼저 1차 추출단위인 표본 투표소수가 표본오차에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 다음으로는 표본 투표소에서 2차 추출단위인 유권자 표본을 추출하는 데 사용되는 추출률에 따른 표본오차의 변화를 분석하였다.

On 2nd of June 2010 Joint Broadcaster Prediction Committee has been composed of three major terrestrial broadcasters in the local election which was up for exit poll. It was the first time to survey every single constituency about exit poll in Korea. As a result, the strong candidates for governors and superintendents from the 16 districts were predicted successfully. Regardless it was predicted properly, the efficiency of the survey has to be analyzed systematically. In other words it is important to be reviewed statistically whether the sample size of the exit poll was appropriate or not. To find out an appropriate sample size, we investigate the followings. One is to find the effect of changing sample size of the primary sampling units. The other is to find the appropriate selection interval for the second stage sampling.
