이 연구는 가믄장아기와 자청비를 대상으로 이들이 외부세계로 진출하는 과정에서 겪는 문화적 충돌과 융합과정을 추출하여 다문화적 특성을 밝히고, 오늘날 한국사회에서 살아가는 결혼이주민들의 현실에 대한 문제를 인식하고자 하는 것이 목적이다. 논의의 주된 대상은 제주도 일반신 본풀이 가운데 여성 주인공인 <삼공본풀이>의 가믄장아기와 <세경본풀이>의 자청비다. 이들은 사회적 약자인 여성으로 태어나 남성 중심의 가부장적 사회에 맞서서 끊임없이 자신의 삶을 개척한 인물들에 해당한다. 이들이 겪는 고난은 신화적 측면에서는 신이 되기 위한 통과의례의 과정이지만, 다문화적 측면에서 살펴보면 혼인을 하는 과정에서 수반되는 타문화권과의 충돌과정으로 해석할 수 있다. 여성 주인공들이 겪는 고난의 공통점은 주류문화권의 인물들과 관계에 있어 정체성의 혼란을 겪는다는 점이다. 이들은 문화적 우위를 앞세운 주류계층의 횡포 앞에서 겨루기를 통해 자신의 정체성을 확립한다. 이들을 둘러싼 세계는 현실세계와 겨루기 세계로 양분된다. 현실세계에서는 주류계층이 우세하지만 겨루기의 세계에서는 비주류계층인 여성주인공들이 우세하다. 정체성을 확립하는 과정에서 두 여성 주인공들의 양상은 다르다. 가믄장아기는 여성이라는 성적 정체성을 지키면서 주류와 비주류계층간의 벽을 허물고 주체로서의 삶을 개척한다. 반면 자청비는 성적열세를 만회하고자 남장을 하는 등 적극적으로 주류문화권으로의 진입을 시도하나 기존의 벽을 허물지 못한다. 두 여성인물들이 펼치는 겨루기의 특징과 다문화적 특성을 관련지어 볼 때 가믄장아기는 다문화주의 중에서도 주류문화와 비주류문화를 동등한 위치에서 인정하는 다문화주의적인 특성에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 반면 자청비는 주류문화와 비주류문화간의 차별이 존재하는 문화다원주의 특성이 내재한다고 할 수 있다. 전자는 문화적 평등을 추구하고 후자는 문화적 차별이 존재한다. 두 주인공들의 삶의 여정에서 드러난 서로 다른 다문화적 특성은 오늘날 한국사회에서 겪는 결혼이주민들의 삶과 관련지어 볼 수 있다. 결혼이주민 대다수가 자신이 살던 고향을 떠나 타국인 한국사회에서 정착하고자 하는 사람들이다. 이들은 정착과정에서 가믄장아기와 같이 타자로서의 삶을 벗어나 주체로서의 삶을 누리는 경우도 있고, 자청비와 같이 인종 차별을 당함으로써 사회 적응에 어려움을 겪기도 한다. 이들 모두가 건강한 사회구성원으로 공존하기 위해서는 스스로의 노력이 중요하지만 주변의 따뜻한 관심과 정부의 지속적인 정책이 뒤따라야 할 것이다.
The aim of this paper is to find multi-cultural features by examining cultural conflict and process of syncretism from the case of and when they enter the outside. By doing this, the practical problems of the international marriage migrant people who live in Korea society can be recognized. Main objects of discussion are from and from who are the main characters of general god of Jejudo. They are born as a woman who is a second-class citizen and they constantly built their lives against a male-centric patriarchal society. From the perspective of mythology, the hardships that they went through are a rite of passage to become goddess. But from the perspective of multiple cultures, these hardships can be recognized as a conflict with other cultures in the process of the marriage. The common point of hardship that the heroines go through is the identity confusion in relationships of the characters of mainstream culture area. They build up their identity through the compeition in the tyranny of mainstram power, preceded by cultural supremacy. The world surrounding them is divided into the real world and the competition world. The mainstream power in the real world is dominant. On the other hand, the heroines of non-mainstream in the competition world are dominant. The aspect of two heroines is different in the process of establishing the identity. protects the sexual identity of female, tears down a wall of the mainstream and the non-mainstream. And she pioneers the life of the main stream. On the other hand, dresses a male attire to recover sexual inferiority and try to enter the mainstream society actively. But she doesn`t tear down the existing wall and exists as a foreigner. Life of two heroines has a resemblance to life of international marriage migrant people who live in Korea society. Some people live like who establishes a subjectivity. The others live like who loses subjectivity. So, a proper government policy and caring of society are necessary for them to coexist as members in Korea society.
