This paper analyzed the configuration and nature of airline networks of East Asia`s top three hub airports, and attempted to explain how these networks reflected the specific circumstances of each airport. Depite its rapid growth, South Korea`s Incheon International Airport located between China and Japan has networks spatially reaching short-distance regions with weak connectivity to major world cities due to its third-tier world city status. Tokyo`s high-order center role as a world city allows Japan`s Narita International Airport to maintain high connectivity to major world cities. However, it lacks diversified network routes because of its already saturated airport facilities and the emergence of new competitive international airports within the nation. Hong Kong International Airport has diversified network routes spatially distributed across different continents due to its geographical location and characteristics as a multi-cultural society and a financial center, and frequent networks to China due to its political return to China.
