정치사, 사상사, 문예사의 전 방면에서 새로운 전범, 典範의 모색이 이루어 졌던 시대를 살았던 水村 任방(인조 18년:1640~경종 4년:1724)은 이념적 지향이 내포된 문학이 창작되었던 시대적 보편성을 지니면서도 자신만의 독특한 미의식을 문학에 구현했던 집권 노론의 문인 관료였다. 본고에서는 일차적으로 『수촌만록(水村漫錄)』을 분석 대상으로 하여 그의 문학관을 살펴보았는데 그 특징은 唐詩風을 바탕으로 한 宋詩風의 부분 수용, 당대(當代) 중심의 작품 선정, 시화(詩話)를 활용한 전달효과의 극대화로 요약할 수 있었다. 그러므로 『수촌만록(水村漫錄)』을 통해 확인된 임방의 문학관은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가풍(家風)의 영향으로 인해 당시(唐詩)를 선호하는 뚜렷한 성향을 보이고 있었지만 문풍(文風)의 변화나 주자존승의 노론 학풍의 영향도 역시 받아서 부분적으로는 송시적 비평관도 수용했다고 판단된다. 둘째, 當代에 대한 관심이 현저히 많았기에 당대의 어려움을 돌파하기 위한 정신적 대응책으로서 당대의 어려움을 돌파할 수 있는 대안의 모색이라는 사유로 확장되었기 때문에 나타나게 된 태도라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 임방은 내·외직을 모두 거쳤던 관료답게 교화적 문학관을 지니고 있음도 확인할 수 있었다.

Lim-bang(1640~1724) lived to the middle of 17th century from the beginning of 18th century. There was new approach from all sides of politics, philosophy. Art at that period, He was a high-ranking government official in the Joseon Dynasty and good at literary which suit both the demands of the times and his own unique taste. So he composed a wide variety of genres, from poetry to a historical story book. 『Soochonmanrok(水村漫錄)』 is just one of them. It`s a selection of Joseon poetry is written in Chinese. In this paper, primarily I analyze 『Soochonmanrok (水村漫錄)』 to discover a view of literature in Lim-bang. It combines the three characteristics. The point are as follows. First, he had a basic critic eyes on Tang`s poetry style at the same time with accepting changes to Song`s poetry style. Second, he mainly selected the then current poetry writingthe 『Soochonmanrok(水村漫錄)』. Third he used the story of poetry in order to maximize effect of pointing a moral.
