This article treats Korean traditional houses on the relationship between space and education. Specially focused on the wall. The purpose of this article is to discover the understanding of Koreans about the educational effect of living space. The most distinct feature of the walls of the traditional houses is too low and weak for defense. On the other hand, they work well as a border. The wall as a border makes separation order in the living space. And the separation rule reflected in the wall is Confucianism of Chosun dynasty. The detailed features of separation is as follows: First, the separation between inner space and outside world means separation private space of family from outer world. It also means the separation of family members from the other people of the outside. Second, the separation between men and women. The wall of traditional Korean house separates the area of women(An Che, Byul Che) and men(Sa Rang Che). It reflects the separation rule of confucianism between men and women. Third, the separation between children and adult. The height of traditional house is taller than children and lower than adult. So, adult can see outside world over the wall. But child cannot. It means the priority of parents authority and of family education. Fourth, the separation between classes. The wall of traditional house separates the area of master from that of servant. And it separates the house of high class(Yang Ban) and that of lower class(Sang Min). In conclusion, Korean traditional house does not mean living space only. It also means the space of education. Intentional consideration of Education is reflected from the idea of ideal house to the construction of the house. And the base of the educational consideration is confucianism of Chosun dynasty. Through this study we can find the understanding of Koreans about the importance of the educational planning and construction of living space.
