The aim of present study is to analyse the 5th and 6th grade elementary English textbooks in terms of the culture lesson. The analysis of the culture lesson was conducted focusing on the quantity and the appropriateness of topics, the activity types of teaching and learning, the cultural comparison, and the relevance between language and culture in learning objectives. The results from the analysis are as follows: First, both the 5th and 6th grade elementary English textbooks do not provide enough culture lessons and various types of learning activities. Second, most of the topics in culture lessons meet the elementary learners` interest. Third, a large number of lessons include cultural comparison activities. Fourth, the relevance between language learning objectives and culture learning objectives is weak. The study concludes with several suggestions for the culture lesson in elementary English curriculum. (Hanman University)
