사적 언어와 공적 언어의 전통적 이분법이 허물어진 21세기적 담화 환경은 사적 언어의 문제성과 중요성을 새롭게 조명하도록 요청하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 먼저 사적 언어의 개념적 스펙트럼을 살핀 다음, 이에 대한 공적 언어의 관리와 간섭의 양상을 밝히고, 나아가 사적 언어가 지닌 교육적 문제성과 중요성에 대해 해명하였다. 이를 통해 사적 언어가 인간의 내적 언어 과정에 직접 간여하여 내적 경험을 인식하고 표현하게 하는 데 중요한 기능을 수행할 뿐 아니라 사고의 도구로서 사회적 언어를 자기화함으로써 언어와 사고 능력을 신장시키는 중요한 계기가 됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 사적 언어가 인간의 언어가 지닌 다양한 기능들 중에서 비소통적 목적의 언어 기능들을 활성화 하는 역할도 수행함을 알게 되었다. 이러한 사적 언어의 국어교육적 가능성을 현실화하기 위해, 이 논문은 국어교육이라는 공적 담론장에서 사적 언어를 의미 있는 대상으로 진지하게 다루는 한편, 교육과정과 수업을 통해 다양한 사적 언어활동을 교수할 필요가 있다고 제안하였다.

In modern society, private language has been understood to take part in communal oral culture in the binary opposition connection with public language. But nowadays the traditional dichotomy of private and public language has fallen, and the communicative function of language use prevailed excessively as the dominant function. This means that private language was daunted, and its possible functions remained only as a trace of social language in the individual`s minds. In this research I studied the educational possibility of private language responsible for human`s internal language process, for thoughts which personalizes social language into private sphere, and for driving force to activate non-communicative functions of language. To realize these educational possibilities of private language, I proposed that in the public sphere of discussion of Korean education private language should be dealt with more weight, and various activities for private language should be encouraged through lectures, curriculum and classes.
