본고에서는 필자가 작성하고 있는 ‘활자본 고전소설 서지 데이터베이스’에 입력된 자료를 토대로 활자본 고전소설의 총량을 제시하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 활자본 고전소설을 정의하고, 그것의 범위를 한정하였다. 그리고 필자가 마련한 기준에 따라 자료를 ‘실물’과 ‘기타 목록’, ‘각종 광고’로 나누어 제시하였다. 그 결과 381종의 작품이 3000여 회에 걸쳐 활자본 고전소설로 발행되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그 중에서 실제 발행된 것이 확실한 것은 328종이며, 나머지 53종의 작품은 광고나 기타 목록 등의 관련 기록에서 제시되었다. 그리고 작품 별로 발행 횟수가 기록되면서 각 작품에 대한 당대 독자의 선호도도 파악할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 활자본 고전소설 전체의 서지 사항을 입력한 대용량 데이터에 대한 분석은 차후에 전개될 활자본 고전소설의 총체적 이해에 초석이 될 것으로 기대한다.

This study presented the total amount of print-edited classical novels based on the data having been inputted to ``Bibliographic database on print-edited classical novels`` that is being written by the writer. For doing so, the study defined print-edited classical novels, and then limited their ranges. Also, this study suggested the data according to selected standards by the writer after dividing them into ``the real thing,`` ``other lists,`` and ``all kinds of advertisements.`` Resultantly, the study could confirm a fact that works of 381 kinds were published in print-edited classical novels through nearly 3000 times. Among them, what was issued actually was 328 kinds, and remaining 53 works were suggested from relevant records such as advertisements or other lists etc. In addition, preferences of contemporary readers on each work could be grasped while the publication frequency had been recorded by works. Therefore, this study expects that analyses on large amount of data to which bibliographic matters databases of all print-edited classical novels would be helpful in making holistic understandings on print-edited classical novels that will be progressed in future.
