본 논문은 <화전가>에 나타난 여성 화자의 자연 인식 양상과 시적 활용 방식을 살피고 이를 통한 그들의 지향을 에코페미니즘의 시각에서 고찰하였다. 그동안의 <화전가> 연구가 화전놀이의 기능적 측면과 여성의식을 얼마나 성취하였는가에 대한 논의에 집중하였다면 본고는 <화전가>텍스트 자체가 어떻게 이러한 측면을 구현해 내고 있는가에 주목하였다. 이를 위해 <화전가>텍스트의 주된 모티프이면서도 지금까지 집중적 조명이 없었던 ‘자연’을 주목하고 <화전가>의 여성화자가 자연을 어떻게 인식하고 시적으로 활용했는가, 그리고 이러한 인식과 활용방식은 어떻게 해석될 수 있는가를 에코페미니즘의 시각으로 읽어내었다. 문학연구에서 에코페미니즘은 자연대상물의 이미지가 여성적 원리나 특성을 어떻게 드러내는가, 텍스트가 어떻게 자연성을 회복하는가에 대해 구명하는 방법론으로서 새로운 텍스트 읽기와 삶의 대안 모색에 도움을 준다. 그동안의 <화전가>읽기가 주로 여성에 집중되었다면 에코페미니즘의 시각은 여성을 ‘자연’과 함께 엮어 읽음으로써 텍스트 읽기의 새로운 면을 부각시켜 줄 것이다. 그 결과 본 논문은 <화전가>에서 자연은 만남의 기회를 주어 관계성 속에서 자아를 확인할 수 있는 확장된 공간으로, 순환성을 약속하는 시간으로, 삶을 그대로 수용하게 하는 역할을 한다는 것을 밝혔다. 그리고 텍스트에서 자연을 ‘동일시’와 ‘재인식’의 시적 방법으로 활용함으로써 충만감과 공존을 지향함을 확인하였다. 전자가 ‘자연성’으로서의 의미를 지닌다면, 후자는 ‘자연’대상물의 시적 활용과 의미라는 점에서 에코페미니즘의 자연에 대한 두 가지 함의를 모두 읽어낼 수 있었다. 이러한 양상은 동일한 모티프와 시적 상황을 가진 동일한 맥락에 있는 남성화자의 텍스트와 특히 변별되는 양상이라는 점에서도 주목을 요한다. 이상의 논의는 에코페미니즘의 시각으로 한국 고전 여성 시가 읽기의 가능성을 시도하였다는 의의를 지니며, 자연과 관련한 여성적 특징과 원리에 대한 이해를 텍스트 읽기를 통해 밝혀내었다는 의미를 지닌다.

The aim of this paper is to look into aspects of female speakers(poetic persona)` recognizing nature and poetic utilization method presented in and, through that, to analyze their inclination from the standpoint of eco-feminism. As a result, it was disclosed that nature plays a role as a space to give an opportunity for meeting and to realize self among relationship, and that nature also is the subject of assuring circularity and accepts nature as it is. In addition, this paper examined aspects of ascertaining possibility of fulfillment and co-existence by expressing poetic methods of projection and new understanding. Supposing the former means as ``natural character``, it can be said that the latter contains the two meanings of nature resulting from eco-feminism from the point of poetic utilization and meaning of ``natural`` object. Form these points, this paper is significant in that it attempted new reading methodology of eco-feminism about Korean classic women poetry, and in that it revealed female features and understanding of principles related to nature through reading text. As to how these aspects appear in female travel lyrics, etc. which research nature, a study looking into the relationship and differences will follow.
