이 연구에서는 드라마의 직장 대화에 나타난 질문 화행에서, 업무를 수행하는 과정에 오가는 질문 화행에 남녀에 따른 차이가 존재하는지, 직장 대화에 나타나는 특이한 질문 화행 유형은 없는지, 또 질문 화행의 구조는 어떠한지 등을 중점적으로 분석해 보았다. 드라마 상의 여성 직장인은 명령, 지시에서도 질문 형식의 표현을 많이 하는데, 이는 비슷한 상황에서 남성 직장인이 평서문 형식으로 직접적으로 표현하는 것과 차이가 있었다. 드라마 직장 대화에서 업무 수행 중 오가는 대화 중에는 설명, 판정을 요구하는 질문 화행도 있었지만 명령, 지시 기능을 가진 질문 화행도 수행이 되었으며, 특히 응답을 요구하는 수사의문문 형식의 질문 화행도 수행되었다. 또 이 연구에서 드라마의 직장 대화에 나타난 ‘사고 전개를 위한 질문 화행’과 ‘문제 해결을 위한 질문 화행’, ‘질책, 비난의 질문 화행’의 구조에 대하여 분석해 본 결과, 질책 화행 구조가 비일반적 것으로 나타났다. 이는 드라마라는 매체의 특성으로 인하여 인물 간의 갈등을 극대화해서 보여주기 위해서 혹은 현실을 풍자하기 위한 장치 등으로 해석할 수 있다. 드라마에 나타난 대화는 실세계의 언어 사용을 가장 유사하게 그리고 있으나 자연 발화는 아니다. 작가, 연출자, 연기자 등이 인식하고 있는 대화관이 투영되고 시청자를 고려하며, 대중매체의 특성이 고려된 가공의 산물이라는 것을 유념해야 한다.

The present study evaluated the sexual differences in the business-related questions, any particular patterns of questions and the structures of question speech acts through analyzing the questions at work places shown in a TV drama. In the drama, for orders or instructions, an office lady employs an interrogative sentence, while an office man employs a declarative sentence - a rather direct expression. In the business conversations at work place, some questions requested an explanation and judgement, while others requested an order or instruction. Particularly, some were rhetorical questions requesting a response. As a consequence of analyzing several question speech acts for thinking process, problem solving and criticizing, those for criticizing proved not general. This means an overemphasis on the conflicts between figures or a sarcasm for the reality, which is the characteristics of a drama. The conversations in a drama mimics the language usage in a real life. However, they are not a natural speech. It needs to be kept in mind that they are artificial products in consideration of the TV audience and the characteristics as a mass media, reflecting the view points of the writer, producer, and actor/actress.
