본고의 목적은 쓰기에 대한 관점에 따른 동기의 의미를 탐색하고 ‘쓰기동기’의 개념과 본질적 속성 및 교육적 의의를 고찰하는 데에 있다. 쓰기에 대한 관점에 따른 동기의 의미를 탐색한 결과, 형식적 관점은 보상과 유인가를, 인지적 관점은 필자 개인 내의 동기 요인을, 사회인지적 관점은 상호 작용과 사회·문화적 환경을 강조함을 확인하였다. 본고에서는 쓰기 동기를 ‘필자의 쓰기 행위를 촉발하고 유지하는 일정한 방향성을 지닌 필자의 심리 상태 내지는 심리적 요인’이라고 조작적으로 정의하였다. 또 쓰기 동기의 본질적 속성은 에너지와 방향이라고 보았으며, 두 속성을 각각의 축으로 설정하여 에너지와 방향의 결합 유형을 찾아보았다. 그리고 쓰기 동기의 변화를 이 결합 유형의 영역 간 이동으로 설명하였다. 끝으로 쓰기 동기의 교육적 의의를 쓰기의 개념과 본질적 속성 차원에서 살펴보았다. 그리고 앞으로 쓰기 동기에 대한 다양한 논의의 확대가 필요함을 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to survey the meaning of writing motivation by perspective on writing, the definition and the significance of writing motivation. As a result of the survey, formalism view of writing is emphasis on the rewards and the incentives, cognitivism view is emphasis on the writer`s cognition, socialism view is emphasis on interaction and social·cultural environments in writing. The definition of writing motivation is that writer`s psychological status or factor is due to start, to sustain, to direct a series of writing acts. And the attribution of writing motivation are energy and direction. Also the types of combination among energy and direction are very various. I explained the change of writing motivation through that. Finally, I suggested that the definition and attribution of writing motivation are very important to the education of writing and the processes of writing. After now we need to study the field of writing motivation in order to write a text voluntarily in school and home.
